PASADENA, Calif. -- I don't think anyone would argue that Hank Moody was overdue for a stint in rehab.
Whether Californication as a whole could use some rehab is the question at hand.
Californication, which stars David Duchovny as Hank Moody, returned for its sixth season last week across Canada on The Movie Network and Movie Central.
The show clearly is nearer the end of its run than the beginning, although last season it equaled its highest-rated season to date, at least according to U.S. network of origin Showtime.
"We'll make a decision about another season of Californication, I think, fairly quickly into this run," said David Nevins, Showtime president, at the recent Television Critics Association tour. "I'm optimistic.
