The new series Cult debuts Tuesday on CW and CTV Two. Meanwhile, less than a month ago, rookie series The Following debuted on Fox and CTV.
The odd thing is, if the titles of Cult and The Following had been switched at birth, no one would have been the wiser. The respective names work equally well for both shows.
In terms of complexity, though, Cult wins. Or loses, depending on which way you look at it.
The main protagonist in Cult, newspaper reporter Jeff Sefton, is played by Matt Davis. He's best known to TV audiences for his role as Alaric Saltzman on another CW show, The Vampire Diaries.
Regarding Cult, I asked Davis, "Honestly -- do you understand what's going on?"
Davis laughed hard.
Finally he said, "Uh ... yes?"
Clearly Davis has comic timing. Cult, however, is no laughing matter.
