Dunham addresses N-word flap

Lena Dunham. (WENN.COM)

Lena Dunham has broken her silence on the storm of controversy surrounding outrageous comedienne Lisa Lampanelli 's use of the N-word in a caption she posted alongside a snap of the pair online.

Lampanelli came under fire for using the racial slur while uploading a picture of herself with the Girls star on Twitter.com on Monday.

Alongside the image, the funnywoman wrote, "Me with my n**ga @LenaDunham of @HBOGirls - I love this beyotch!!"

Dunham remained quiet as the furore refused to go away, but took to her own Twitter page on Friday to finally address the issue, insisting she was not happy with Lampanelli's actions.

In response to criticism from writer Shayla Pierce, who claimed Dunham's silence spoke volumes about her stance on the matter, she wrote, "That's not a word I would EVER use. Its implications are beyond my comprehension. I was made supremely uncomfortable by it.

"140 characters will never be enough for the kind of dialogue that will actually help us address issues of race and class."

She then added, "I'm sorry that any of those feelings were evoked for you, especially by a sentence with my name in it."
