Lena Dunham in "Girls."

I can't decide if Girls is piercingly brilliant or the most critically overrated show in TV history.

I go back and forth, sometimes from scene to scene.

The general pattern is I spend much of each episode lamenting how stupid -- and, to be blunt, how gross -- Girls is.

But there will be one or two moments per episode that give me pause to consider if Girls truly is all that it's cracked up to be.
