Dr. Oz sued over foot remedy
By Chris E. Hayner, Zap2It.com

Dr. Mehmet Oz (WENN.COM)

A New Jersey man says he followed a tip given by "The Dr. Oz Show," and instead of curing his insomnia, he was left with third-degree burns. The Associated Press reports Frank Dietl was stuck in his bed for weeks after using a home remedy technique discussed on the show called the "knap-sack heated rice footsie."

The remedy was explained on the April 17, 2012 episode of the show, featuring Dr. Mehmet Oz filling a pair of socks with uncooked rice, then microwaving them to warm them up. He then put the microwaved socks on his feet. According to Oz, wearing the warm, rice-filled socks for 20 minutes would help with insomnia, but warned viewers to make sure they weren't too hot.

When Dietl tried the technique he burned his feet, leading him to file a lawsuit in the Manhattan state Supreme Court. There has been no comment from "The Dr. Oz Show," as they haven't had a chance to review the lawsuit yet. Dr. Oz was recently named one of the year's top ten most influential celebrities by Forbes, landing at number six.
