Helen Slinger, director of the documentary Dog Dazed, admits there's been one reaction that outnumbers all others at advance screenings.
"They're all horrified by how much poop there is," she says. "But, y'know, if you have a dog, there will be poop."
And the dozens of shots of dogs 'going' are at the crux of this documentary, airing Thursday on CBC's Doc Zone, that both examines our obsession with our mutts, and showcases urban clashes between "dog people" and "non dog people" - including "off-leash" wars in Vancouver's Stanley Park and Toronto's Ledbury Park.
She even found a co-op concierge who has catalogued the poop DNA of all the dogs in the building, and plays detective when someone doesn't pick up.
