Recap: 'American Idol' chat
By Jane Stevenson, QMI Agency

The long and winding road to this season's American Idol winner saw the remaining nine finalists try their hand at Beatles covers on Wednesday night for mixed results.

Big voiced singers like Kree, Amber and Candice did total justice to their respective Fab Four songs - With A Little Help From My Friends, She's Leaving Home and Come Together.

While others really struggled, in particular Lazaro who fell flat with his take on My Life while wearing a horrific looking yellow blazer.

He tearfully told the audience afterwards, he was going to do a different Beatles song but decided to do My Life the previous night at the last minute.

Otherwise, Burnell, Paul, Angie and Devin were pretty unmemorable with their versions of Let It Be, Eleanor Rigby, Yesterday and The Long and Winding Road, respectively, and Janelle had the good fortune to go last with a decent enough if hardly spectacular version of I Will.

Overall though it was shocking when some of them admitted they had never heard their particular Beatles song before.

These are classics people!

But the really big news, at least if you're Canadian, is that Carly Rae Jepsen made a taped appearance off the top of the show to say she'll be performing a new song, Take A Picture, on the American Idol finale with viewers helping out with lyrics, instrumentation and production between now and then.

And of the female and male runners-up to the Top Ten finalists, Aubrey was chosen over Charlie by voters to perform on the American Idol tour this summer.
