'Hope' cast a loveable clan

Fans of Arrested Development have reason to cheer, with Netflix readying a fall return of the show.

In the meantime, I submit to those waiting for the Bluths, that Raising Hope has offered a hilariously-dysfunctional replacement TV family in a similar vein. Call it "black humour" methadone.

The sitcom, about a barely post-adolescent young man named Jimmy (Lucas Neff), raising a daughter he had with a serial killer, is transgressive blue-collar humour with a heart beneath its crusty surface (but never any lessons learned).

I've come to feel affection for this dumb-but-loving clan, the Chances - mom Virginia (Martha Plimpton), dad Burt (Garret Dillahunt), Jimmy's wife Sabrina (Shannon Woodward) and dementia-stricken Maw Maw (Cloris Leachman).
