The hatchet has been buried. Fortunately, it wasn’t in Jimmy Kimmel’s skull.

Outspoken and out-there hip hop star Kanye West appeared on last night’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! to confront the talk show host mano-a-mano, less than two weeks after the rapper and the comedian waged a war of words on Twitter.

West said while he was furious with Kimmel, his anger was also directed at tabloid newspapers, gossip sites and the rest of the rumour-mongers dragging him down, and Kimmel happened to be a convenient target when West’s temper finally boiled over.

“At a certain point these egos can flare up everything and we kind of just took it back to high school for a little bit,” said West.

“And I got beat up a lot in high school,” said Kimmel.

The feud began when Kimmel mocked a self-aggrandizing interview West had done with BBC radio. On his show, Kimmel aired a skit recreating of a portion of the interview with children playing the roles of West and radio DJ Zane Lowe.

A livid Ye responded with an all-caps Twitter tirade against Kimmel, with gems like, “JIMMY KIMMEL PUT YOURSELF IN MY SHOES… OH NO THAT MEANS YOU WOULD HAVE GOTTEN TOO MUCH GOOD P***Y IN YOUR LIFE” and “SARAH SILVERMAN IS A THOUSAND TIMES FUNNIER THAN YOU AND THE WHOLE WORLD KNOWS IT!!!” (Silverman, Kimmel’s ex-girlfriend, would later tweet a response that she was “5x funnier AT BEST.”)

But as of last night, all appears to have been forgiven. During the 40-minute interview, much of which was a stream-of-consciousness monologue by West, the music titan talked about everything from the perils of celebrity to Kimmel’s resemblance to SpongeBob SquarePants to the booming business of leather jogging pants.

Kimmel, for his part, was exceedingly polite and contrite. “A lot of times I think you bring it on yourself, this misunderstanding about you,” he meekly ventured at one point.

“I’m totally weird and I’m totally honest and I’m totally inappropriate sometimes,” said West.
