Relationships are a series of ups and downs, quite like this week’s episode of The Bachelor when Juan Pablo and the ladies faced their first dates and first heartbreaks

During the first one-on-one date of the season, Juan Pablo blindfolded Clare and whisked her off to a winter wonderland in the heart of Los Angeles. Taking “chill” to a new level, the two sledded, skated and danced in the snow.

Then to heat things up, they soaked in the hot tub where Clare opened up about the loss of her father, which earned her a rose and the first romantic kiss of the season. Their chemistry was undeniable. “This may be my first date with my future husband” she said optimistically.

Kat was the second bachelorette chosen for a one-on-one date. The two jumped on a private jet and flew to Salt Lake City, dressed in electronic neon outfits and took part in an a dancing marathon called the Electronic Run. Although there was no heart-to-heart conversation, Kat’s electric attitude earned her a rose.

On the first group date, Juan juggled the ladies during a photo shoot with some four-legged friends in order to raise money for Models and Mutts. While some women were dressed in gorgeous gowns and bikinis, others weren’t so glamorous and were assigned not-so-flattering costumes to wear. Lucy and Andi were the real winners, stripping naked with Juan Pablo for a nude shoot, all in the name of charity.

After the shoot, the group joined Juan on a romantic rooftop date, where some got to share more of themselves with the single father bachelor, like Cassandra, who opened up about her own son for the first time.

Victoria, on the other hand, drank one glass of champagne (or five) too many and locked herself in the bathroom crying, screaming and swearing in a drunken rage. Although she apologized to Juan Pablo for her tantrum, Juan sent her home. He already has a child; he isn’t looking to date one.

At the rose ceremony, news reporter Amy L. and Chantel from Miami did not receive a rose and were sent home.
