A Desperate Housewives reunion would be hard to pull off, but there's a sneaky way Eva Longoria could arrange it.

What if Longoria used her new animated series Mother Up! to gather all her Desperate Housewives co-stars?

“They can get together on Mother Up!, that's a great idea,” Longoria said excitedly.

The ladies wouldn't have to be there at the same time. And they could toss aside their Desperate Housewives characteristics and voice characters who are totally the opposite, adding an inside-joke element to the proceedings.

“You can do anything in animation,” Longoria said. “I may do that.”

That's something for the future, though, with Mother Up! making its Canadian debut Thursday, Jan. 23 on City. Longoria voices lead character and horrible mom Rudi, a New York record-company executive who resigns due to scandal and moves to a suburb called Willowdale with her two kids.

There are plot-setup similarities between Mother Up! and the live-action sitcom Suburgatory, which airs on ABC and City. But you always can go further with animation in terms of edginess and ridiculousness.

“It is an adult cartoon, so there's a lot of bleeping, the content is very inappropriate,” said Longoria, who played Gabrielle Solis on Desperate Housewives, currently is executive-producing the Lifetime series Devious Maids and recently was named Maxim magazine's woman of the year for 2014. “(Mother Up!) is in the realm of Family Guy, American Dad, The Simpsons ... well, it's a little more risque than The Simpsons.

“Rudi's the mother we all don't want to be. At the root of it, she loves her kids. I am not a mom, so I think that helps, and people won't think I treat my own children this way.”

There's certainly a lot of personality in Longoria's husky voice, but she hadn't done much voice-over work in the past, not because she wasn't interested, but she was busy with other things.

“People hear me and they think I can sing, too,” Longoria said. “I can't even sing Happy Birthday.

“But I really wanted to do the voice of (Rudi),” added Longoria when asked if she considered having her company produce Mother Up!, without her personally providing the lead voice. “I liked the idea of being in a sound booth with no hair or makeup. I thought it was going to be easy, but it's even more work, because you have to go big and exert and really do some over-acting so that it translates.”

Rudi is very nice-looking as far as animated characters are concerned. So that's one thing she has in common with Gaby, and by extension Longoria as well.

“I did get some sketches (of Rudi) before,” Longoria said. “The goal was not for her to look like me. As long as she's hot, I'm good with that. I did want her to have longer hair, but apparently that's really hard in animation. It would have cost another gabillion dollars.”

Hmmm, that's about what a live-action Desperate Housewives reunion would cost, too. Best for Eva Longoria to pony up on Mother Up!
