So, this is a new thing we’re doing.

Welcome to the first edition of Stream This, our weekly column about all things video streaming. We realized that most people we knew were getting their entertainment from places like Netflix and YouTube, so we’ve decided to talk about this stuff more often.

And in honour of this weekend’s biggest event – Super Bowl XLVIII on Sunday night – we’re putting a pigskin theme on this first column. We’ve got a list for you. After you’ve picked up all the imperative items for your football viewing experience – beer, chips, wings and comfortable pants – watch these clips to get pumped up for Sunday’s gridiron battle between the Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos.

HULU ADZONE’S SUPER BOWL COMMERCIALS

Getting excited about commercials feels kind of lame, it’s true. But the same thing happens every year at Super Bowl time – there are a handful of amazing ads that your friends are all talking about in the office or on Facebook. Since Canadians can’t view the American commercials in real time during the game, it might be handy to visit Hulu AdZone. You’ll be able to watch classic Super Bowl commercials from previous years, separated by category, and you can also check out teasers for this year’s ads. This way, you won’t be totally missing out on the Full House reunion for Dannon Oikos Greek Yogurt, or on William Shatner’s latest Priceline commercial, where he plays an overprotective father – the kind of dad that climbs the side of a hotel to check in on his daughter and her new beau.

METLIFE STADIUM TIME-LAPSE

Sunday’s game will take place in the most expensive stadium in the world, MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J. The building hosts both the New York Giants and the New York Jets during the regular season, and cost $1.6 billion to construct. Want to see how it was created? Webcam company EarthCam has put together a time-lapse video, which can be found on YouTube, that documents the construction of the stadium from 2007 to 2010. Take 50 seconds to experience this epic evolution – maybe it’ll make you appreciate the stadium more – before hitting the couch to watch the game.

BAD LIP READING

Watching tough guys say nonsensical things in funny voices is an enjoyable way to spend four minutes. An anonymous video editor from Texas – who has accumulated a massive online following on YouTube for his eerily good “lip-reading” videos of Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, The Hunger Games and others – has posted two hilarious compilations of NFL players, refs and coaches saying ridiculous phrases. While these guys obviously aren’t talking about killing Dracula, attending cat parties or having rap battles with Uncle Jimmy, it definitely looks like it. One clip shows Broncos Quarterback Peyton Manning telling a reporter what grosses him out – old people, allergies, Voldemort and denim golf jeans. You can’t fault the guy – denim golf jeans would scare anyone.

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS

Let’s face it, football on film and television isn’t the same as watching the game in person. But Peter Berg’s long-running series Friday Night Lights, which is available to stream on Netflix, was a captivating look at a Texas high school football team. Perfect for binge-watching ahead of Sunday’s match up.

New to Netflix:

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

This solid film adaptation of the John le Carre spy novel boasted an impressive cast – Gary Oldman, Colin Firth, Tom Hardy and Benedict Cumberbatch – and earned Oldman an Oscar nomination.

Velvet Goldmine

If you’re a fan of glam rock, celebrity debauchery and non-linear plot structures, it might be worth revisiting this 1998 Ewan McGregor movie. It’s also the perfect opportunity to check out Christian Bale before he became Batman.

Nashville

The first season of this musical drama hit Netflix this month. It stars Hayden Panettiere, who was recently nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance as teen diva Juliette Barnes.
