Will Dragons' Den without Kevin O'Leary be “Oh, dreary?”
CBC announced on Friday that O'Leary, one of the original Dragons on the popular entrepreneurial reality series Dragons' Den, is leaving the show. Bruce Croxon, who joined the show in 2011, also is leaving the lair.
Replacing O'Leary and Croxon for the upcoming ninth season of Dragons' Den will be financial expert Michael Wekerle and restaurant magnate Vikram Vij. They will join returnees Arlene Dickinson, Jim Treliving and David Chilton.
Dragons' Den has undergone several changes among the Dragons through the years, but O'Leary was a constant presence as the “villain,” so to speak. It'll be interesting to see what the vibe is on Dragons' Den without O'Leary, who was the Dragon viewers loved to hate.
O'Leary continues to appear in the eighth season of Dragons' Den, which currently is airing, as well as the similarly themed U.S. series Shark Tank (ABC, CTV Two).
Wekerle made his fortune investing in tech and media companies. Vij previously has appeared as a judge on the Food Network’s Top Chef Canada and Chopped Canada, as well as CBC’s Recipe to Riches.
