Although CBS dropped "How I Met Your Dad" during the pilot stage, the comedy may make its way to the small screen after all. Netflix and other content distributors have already shown interest in picking up the project. Their interest comes as no surprise, given the popularity of "How I Met Your Mother," which inspired the spin-off.

This week, CBS presented its programming schedule for the 2014-2015 season. In spite of the buzz surrounding "How I Met Your Dad," the network passed on the pilot, opting instead to move forward with the new comedies "The Odd Couple" (starring Matthew Perry) and "The McCarthys."

Not convinced by the test episode headlined by Greta Gerwig, CBS invited creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas to try again. But the two writers declined to make a second pilot.

Their efforts so far have not been in vain, it seems, as they have already elicited interest from other parties. Deadline indicates that FOX and NBC have stepped up, in addition to Netflix.

The digital platform has already rescued a few canceled series in the past, backing and distributing the fourth seasons of "Arrested Development" and "The Killing." The final season of the latter series is expected to arrive on the streaming website August 1. Netflix has also picked up the animated series "Star Wars: The Clone Wars," originally aired by Cartoon Network.
