No matter which late night host you prefer to watch on television, it’s clear comedy influence and buzz haven't been won by Nielsen ratings in a long time. Viral videos are king these days, and the two hosts sharing the crown are the Jimmys - Fallon and Kimmel.
When it comes to YouTube clicks, they leave all others in the digital dust.
Here are some of their most recent offerings that you need to see now.
From Jimmy Fallon:
Lip-Sync Battle with Emma Stone
If DJ Khaled ever gets tired on tour, he could always ask Emma Stone to fill in and lip sync to his tracks while he catches his breath back stage. During a lip-sync battle with Jimmy Fallon, Stone chose Khaled’s All I Do Is Win and played to the crowd and the camera for a hilarious diva performance more entertaining than anything Mariah Carey has done lately. The video already has over 20 million views.
Will Ferrell and Chad Smith Drum-Off
Celebrity lookalikes Will Ferrell (the comedian) and Chad Smith (drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers) sit down at identical drum kits for a good old fashioned drum-off that culminates with Ferrell banging on a cowbell and Chili Peppers’ frontman Anthony Kiedis singing Blue Oyster Cult’s Don’t Fear the Reaper, a nod to Ferrell’s famous More Cowbell Saturday Night Live sketch.
Robinson Cano Surprises Yankees fans while they’re booing him
When former Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano left the team for a fat paycheque with the Seattle Mariners, New York fans were sour. So when Fallon set up a giant cutout of Cano’s face, they were only too happy to boo him – until the real Cano stepped out to shake their hands. “Boo! You suck!” became “How you doin’, Robbie? Welcome back to New York!”
From Jimmy Kimmel:
Celebrities Read Mean Tweets #7
A slew of A-list stars (Julia Roberts, Emma Stone, Sofia Vergara, Ashton Kutcher, and Courteney Cox (to name of few) read mean tweets about themselves on camera while R.E.M.’s Everybody Hurts plays in the background. The tweets range from blunt (“I hate Courteney Cox. I f---ing hate her.”) to crude (“Sofia Vergara sounds like she has a d--- in her mouth.”) to, well, funny and true (“David Blaine looks like his voice is putting his face to sleep.”) Watch as Kutcher doesn’t even crack a smile as he deadpans, “Ashton Kutcher needs to get hit by a bus. ASAP.” Ouch!
Lie Witness News: Godzilla Edition
Godzilla crushes cities on a whim, but the real threat to human existence are the people Jimmy Kimmel’s producers found on the streets of Los Angeles, who actually believed the giant lizard was real – and responsible for destroying Tokyo, Japan.
Pedestrian Question: What is Gluten?
There are those who can’t eat gluten because it will make them sick, and then there are those who choose not to eat gluten because it’s trendy. If the volunteer gluten-free dieters in your life are getting you down with all their rice crackers and corn pasta, you’re not alone. Kimmel exposes just how uninformed some of these health nuts are, by asking them one simple question: What is gluten? Over 2 million YouTube viewers watched them grapple cluelessly for the answer.
