Over two months after the last episode of season four was aired on HBO, the fantasy drama remains the most pirated show on the internet, averaging no less than 300,000 downloads per day.

According to a report from the media analytics firm Semetric relayed by the Wall Street Journal, episodes of "Game of Thrones," at their peak, accounted for over half of all illegal TV show downloads on file-sharing sites. The drama even triggered more downloads than all of the music downloads on BitTorrent combined.

Aired in mid-June, the show's season four finale ("The Children") reached two million downloads in just 24 hours. This is a new record for the HBO series, which has claimed the dubious distinction of being the most pirated TV show for two years now.

A worldwide phenomenon, "Game of Thrones" recently became the most popular show in HBO's history, surpassing "The Sopranos" with its 18.4 million fans.

Scheduled to begin lensing this month, the fifth season will air on the cable network in spring 2015. The premiere date is expected to be either March 29 or April 5.
