With Seth Myers, Jimmy Kimmel and TV's best comedians all in the same room, the 2014 Primetime Emmy Awards were a sure bet for a few good laughs. Here are our five favourite moments of the night:

Jimmy Kimmels outs Matthew McConaughey

Jimmy Kimmel basically took over the hosting duties from Myers by delivering a hilarious two-minute rant on Matthew McConaughey by first fat-shaming the actor for his post-Oscar weight, then telling him "you have a face for movies, get out of here you don't belong here... and take Julia Roberts with you."

Bryan Cranston makes out with Julia Louis-Dreyfus

While Julia Louis-Dreyfus' win for lead actress in a comedy for her HBO show Veep was predictable, her passionate kiss with Bryan Cranston took many by surprise, even if it seemed like it was pre-planned. Heading to the stage out of breath, she deadpans, "Yeah, yeah, he was on Seinfeld, yeah," referring to a time when Cranston once played Elaine's dentist boyfriend Tim Whatley.

Weird Al hands George R. R. Martin a type writer

Meyers spent the past decade of his life writing spoofs of news and cultural events. It makes perfect sense, then, that he'd have legendary musical satirist Weird Al perform hilarious versions of the nominated shows theme songs. While performing to the Game of Thrones theme, he demanded author Martin "type faster," and proceeded to hand the author an old fashioned type writer. Get to it, George, but please don't kill off Jon Snow!

Andy Samberg as Joffrey pleads Lena Heady to save him

Andy Samberg joined Weird Al on stage, dressed in full King Joffrey get up, drinking some delicious red wine handed to him by good friend Seth Meyers. Realizing he's been poisoned, Samberg begs presenter Lena Heady (Cersei Lannister on Game of Thrones) to save him. When she declines, he savagely asks, "Why don't you love me like you love Uncle Jamie?" Yes, Lena Heady, why not?

Ricky Gervais reads his winner’s speech

There’s a reason Ricky Gervais was asked to host the Golden Globes three times in a row –he gets award show comedy. While presenting the award for Best Writing for a Variety Program, he managed to pick at Jim Parson winning the Best Actor category four times in a row, called Matt LeBlanc Joey from Friends, and even took a swig at the awards show itself. He sulkingly read the speech he had prepared in case he did win Best Actor to roaring laughter. Don’t worry Ricky, you’re still one of the best comics in the business.
