Everything happens for a reason. For American Idol runner-up Katharine McPhee the reason she did not win the popular singing competition, might be because she's destined to be a movie star.

The California beauty has apparently won over director Steven Spielberg, who has requested a private meeting with her.

"When you get some phone calls or you hear rumours ... it definitely gives you a little bit of hope," she says, adding she's also heard Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes want her to sing at their upcoming wedding.

"I've heard a lot of different rumours ... I really don't want to jinx anything to be honest."

One thing McPhee will confirm is her plans to collaborate with hit songwriter Diane Warren for her debut album.

"We want to get together and start writing some stuff together."
