Being Erica tends to elicit different reactions from its audience.

Some viewers think Erica -- played by Erin Karpluk -- is just fine, but most of the other people in her life are jerks. Others believe it's Erica who needs to get her priorities straight.

"It's so funny, everyone has such different opinions," said Karpluk, whose time-travel series returns tonight for its second season on CBC. "Another interviewer asked me, 'Why is Erica so judgmental?'

"For story-writing, you do need some sort of conflict. But I like her family relationships because Erica can be wrong. I love those episodes where she's so full of herself, thinking she's got it all figured out, then she falls on her face.

"Sometimes we'll do an episode and I'll think, 'Why don't I like Erica right now?' But I can't judge her."
