When it comes to giving birth to new projects, TV star and stand-up comedian Caroline Rhea always has plenty of buns in the oven.
Whether it's a new show, a stand-up tour across North America, shooting a new movie or hosting a hit reality game show -- such as her previous gig as host of The Biggest Loser -- Rhea isn't one to nest at home for long.
But, things are about to change for the busy comedian.
Motherhood is beckoning and Rhea says she's ready for the change in atmosphere, if not pace.
"That's my next project," says Rhea laughing. "My boyfriend and I have been wanting this forever."
The newly-preggers actress is originally from Montreal, now she and her partner, fellow stand-up comedian Costaki Economopoulos, live in New York City.
The 44-year-old hints that the process to pregnancy wasn't a walk in the park.
"It's harder when you're older -- it's not like when you're young -- it takes a lot longer and (they) really love telling you all about your 'odds,' " she says. "For instance, 'you could be hit by lightning 14 times before you get pregnant.' "
She defied the odds and managed to get knocked up before getting struck by an electrical current from the sky.
Rhea says the baby is due sometime in the fall, her other big news is a new TV show based on the Del Shores play, turned movie, now turned television series, Sordid Lives.
Rhea will star opposite Olivia Newton-John and Rue McClanahan in the series which she describes as the polar opposite of Desperate Housewives.
"It's not Wisteria Lane, that's for sure. It takes place basically in a Texas trailer park, there's a lot of dark humour and it's very funny," she says. "I had to shoot a sex scene, which I'll be discussing in my stand-up for sure -- it was utterly horrifying."
Rhea says Canadians should look for the series to premiere on a Canadian network sometime before July.
"It's the funniest show I've shot, that and my cartoon (Phineas and Ferb)," says Rhea.
The series has been filmed, so for the next half of her pregnancy Rhea says she plans on playing a few stand-up dates here and there around New York.
"I'll take a bit of a mat(ernity) leave," says Rhea.
But, you can bet this baby momma won't be able to stay put for long, whether it's babies, or television shows, Rhea is a woman constantly on the move.
Plus, Rhea says motherhood means a whole new mess of comedic fodder to delve into.
"Stand up is my favourite thing to do ... I'm sure pregnancy and motherhood will make it into the act. I'm not good at making stories up. My stand up really is based on things that happen."
