Bomb Girls has exploded, in a good way, not a bad way.

Hence the announcement on Tuesday that Global has renewed its original series Bomb Girls for a second season.

The first-season finale of Bomb Girls airs Wednesday, Feb. 8 on Global. The show has been so well-received that while the first season consisted of only six episodes, there will be 12 episodes in the second season.

Development on the second season will begin shortly and the production schedule will be announced at a later date.

Shot in Toronto, Bomb Girls profiles the lives of Canadian women taking on the dangerous task of working in a munitions factory during the Second World War.

In the first-season finale, Gladys (Jodi Balfour) has her secret job exposed, Lorna (Meg Tilly) grapples with a possible pregnancy and Kate (Charlotte Hegele) struggles with the return of her manipulative father.
