It's amazing the nuggets you find when examining past quotes in light of subsequent events.
While speaking with David Duchovny during the Television Critics Association tour last July, he was asked if it was tough getting into the skin of his character -- irresponsibly horny Hank -- on the set of Californication.
"No, my wife says it's like a mood," said Duchovny, who is married to actress Tea Leoni. "She says, 'I recognize that mood in you.'
"For whatever work I've done, I have access to the mood."
Indeed.
In late August Duchovny checked himself into a rehab clinic to deal with a sex addiction. It led to a lot of jokes about life imitating art, or the other way around, but in the grand scheme most people respected Duchovny's honesty.
Californication begins its second season tonight across Canada on The Movie Network and Movie Central, and speaking of honesty, Duchovny feels that's the trait that makes Hank likeable.
"(Hank) doesn't lie, which I think is really powerful," Duchovny said. "The only thing he lies about is that he had sex with Mia, the underage girl (played by Madeline Zima). But I think we forgive him that lie, because he would lose his love."
