Everywhere you go, the kids wanna rock. Camp Rock, that is.
And predictably, a sequel is on the way.
The Disney made-for-TV movie Camp Rock, starring the Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato, attracted a Canadian audience of nearly 850,000 viewers to the Family Channel last Friday night.
Those numbers made Camp Rock the second most-watched TV movie in Family Channel history, behind only High School Musical 2.
In the United States, Camp Rock pulled in 8.9 million viewers for its Disney Channel debut on Friday, another 3.6 million for a second airing on ABC on Saturday, and another 3.7 million for a third airing on ABC Family on Sunday.
With healthy numbers like those, you knew it wouldn't be long before talk of a Camp Rock sequel made the rounds. Disney hopes to go into production in late spring or summer 2009, depending upon the cast members' schedules.
The Jonas Brothers and Lovato are working on their respective Disney Channel series, J.O.N.A.S. and Welcome to Mollywood.
They also are touring together this summer, with the tour kicking off on Friday, July 4 in Toronto.
Also on July 4, Canadian Fans of Camp Rock can tune into Camp Rock: Rock Along on the Family Channel. It's a version of the film that cues audiences to sing and dance along.
