'Top Model' Tenika not picture perfect
By TARA MERRIN - Calgary Sun

Despite her stunning good looks, Tenika Davis doesn't make a good first impression.

At least that was the consensus between the judges on Canada's Next Model who booted the 23-year-old Newmarket, Ont. student off the show this week.

"I think the judges were a bit harsh in some of the comments they made because they were more personality oriented -- I don't think anybody really got a chance to know who I am," says Davis.

"I guess they had me categorized in a specific way, but they just didn't get a sense of who I was. Overall, I was confident and I guess they thought I was kind of scary."

One person who probably found her a bit terrifying was fellow-model wannabe Sisi, who Davis freaked out on when she was confronted by Sisi about blow drying her hair at 1:30 a.m.

"I am not a person who yells and bitches people out all the time. It was a high-stress situation and I did feel as tough Sisi needed to hear some of the things I did tell her -- just maybe not as loud."

While her abrasive personality was blamed, Davis' elimination was also due to her mediocre photos.

It's something Davis actually agrees with.

"I compared them to some of the other girl's pictures and they weren't as good," she says, adding she was not surprised when she was sent packing.

"I kind of figured out I wasn't going to win the competition early in the game. I started to get a sense maybe the judges weren't feeling me as much as I wanted them to.

"I knew I wasn't the one, so it was just a matter of timing. I'm glad, obviously, I made it that far."

Now she's no longer in the running to become the country's next top model, Davis is throwing her support behind Andrea, a 19-year-old cashier from Whitby, Ont.

"She is such a beautiful person, her photos are absolutely gorgeous and she's in the right age bracket, too. I think she'll go the distance."

As for Davis, she is now taking acting classes and plans to pursue a career in broadcasting while continuing to model.

"I am not trying to be the next Naomi Campbell -- she was 16 when she started out and, obviously, I am 23-years-old. So I am going to try and use this small window of opportunity I have and do something that is better suited for me."

Canada's Next Top Model airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on Citytv.
