Canadian Idol celebrity judges got a chance to see London talent yesterday for the first time.
Auditions for the television singing competition continue today behind closed doors, with the best heading to Toronto as part of the show's Top 100.
The judges -- Farley Flex, Jake Gold, Sass Jordan and Zack Werner -- were at an undisclosed hotel to hear 120 contestants who made it through two stages of auditions, held over the weekend at White Oaks Mall.
Idol's producers weeded through 915 competitors who sang at the mall.
Those advancing to the Top 100 risk disqualification if they are identified by the media.
Unsuccessful competitor Elena Papillo of Windsor said she sang well yesterday, but wasn't sure why she was passed over or what the judges were looking for.
"I was on every song, no pitch problems. I thought it went really well," she said. "It is disappointing.
"Maybe they're looking for a specific style of singing or how somebody looks. I'm not sure."
Papillo, 19, sang two songs, I Will Always Love You and You're Still the One.
The auditions were taped for CTV, which launches its show this summer.
"It's cruel, but people watch TV to see the bad experiences that people had," Papillo said.
Bernadette Fazari, who travelled from Barrie to support her son Sergio yesterday, said even though he didn't advance, the whole experience in London was positive.
"People were great; the atmosphere was great. It (takes) talent and luck (to advance)."
Fazari said her Sergio, 17, will try again at the Toronto auditions scheduled for next month.
