Jaydee Bixby and Annika Odegard may be dropping out of high school this fall. And, chances are, their parents would be thrilled.
Not returning to the classroom would mean the young singers, Alberta's two finalists in Canadian Idol's Top 22, had scored the big prize -- a record contract.
For Calgary's Odegard, it's been a long time coming.
Although the Henry Wise Wood student is just 16, she's already made a name for herself, appearing in over 20 theatrical productions including 12 at StoryBook Theatre.
"I don't get stage fright, but those (Idol) judges still scare me. I realized I'm a little more sensitive than I thought," Odegard says.
While Odegard has received some tough criticism from the panel, they obviously feel she has a good shot at winning the Idol crown.
Her voice is strong and her stage presence is exceptional.
In fact, the only thing standing in her way might be completely out of her control -- a lack of camera time.
"This week, I think people got to know me a little bit more and I really think my personality shows a lot when I'm performing."
Red Deer's Bixby, 16, has certainly had his share.
The young blues-rocker, who grew up in Drumheller and Strathmore, has been wowing the judges (and the Idol producers) since he auditioned in Calgary.
For Bixby, his family is his inspiration to win Canadian Idol.
One of his five sisters, Dolly, is losing her battle with leukemia and, he says, seeing him on TV is literally what she lives for.
"I want to be able to make her last couple months the best on Earth -- that's why I am doing it. I want her to know I love her with all my heart."
Canadian Idol airs Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday night next week on CTV.
