Peck tackles a bushel of work

One of the "most beautiful guys" in the world will be in our city this weekend.

To look at daytime soap actor Austin Peck is, well, spectacular. Deemed one of the most beautiful men by YM magazine, this former model wins hearts as the boxer-turned-corporate exec Austin Reed in Days of Our Lives.

But after spending several hours over two days to track down this hunk, Peck had only a few minutes to talk in an interview sprinkled with attitude.

Perhaps his recent frantic schedule was a factor. His publicist warned there would be no time for niceties on the phone; Peck had to get back on the set.

The 25-year-old actor says his schedule has been extremely busy lately with work, publicity and doing appearances like the 18th Annual World of Wheels, which runs in the Northlands AgriCom this weekend.

Peck seemed surprised when asked whether he's a car fan.

"I like cars. I don't know what a car fan means," said Peck, who will appear at the car show from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday. "I love cars, but I'm not very knowledgeable in it.''

His second visit to Canada, Peck was warned about loads of snow and below-zero temperatures.

"That's cold no matter where you are,'' Peck said yesterday. "That's OK, I have clothes. I'm cool.''

When asked about his love life in the daytime drama, Peck seemed miffed the reporter didn't follow the storyline.

"It's going to take too long to sum it up,'' said Peck, before offering a synopsis of the show.

Soap stars can work gruelling days on the set. Filming starts early and can run till 10 p.m.

Peck says if he's lucky he goes running in the morning.

After filming wraps up, he heads to the gym to exercise a passion, boxing. Working out one to three hours, five days a week isn't enough to categorize him as a fitness buff, he says. Forget about asking him about what he eats, he laughs.

He also crams in an acting lesson once a week and a private session with a coach.

Yes, he has a girlfriend. And yes, he has lots of fans - or so he's told.

"I have a woman that handles my fan mail and she informs me that I get a lot of mail.''

Peck's other passion is the theatre. He plans to star in and produce his own play this year.

"I love acting. It's what I want to do the rest of my life, at least one of the things,'' said Peck.
