More 'Degrassi' on the way
By BILL HARRIS, QMI Agency

Annie Clark, who plays Fiona, on "Degrassi."

Degrassi four nights a week? Joey Jeremiah literally would flip his lid.

Alas, no one on Degrassi wears fedoras any more (thank God). But the latest version of the Degrassi franchise will air Monday to Thursday, in true teen-soap fashion, starting this Monday on MuchMusic.

The new edition simply is called Degrassi - as opposed to earlier instalments Degrassi: The Next Generation, Degrassi High, Degrassi Junior High, The Kids from Degrassi Street and Degrassi: The Cavemen Years (okay, we made that last one up).

A total of 48 half-hour episodes of the new Degrassi are scheduled to air. The plan at this point is to air four episodes a week for the first six weeks, before returning to a once-a-week format this fall. As the new season begins, one of the main story lines centres on Fiona (Annie Clark), who is trapped in an abusive relationship.

The debut of the new Degrassi comes on the heels of the Friday airing of the made-for-TV movie Degrassi Takes Manhattan, also on MuchMusic.
