HOLLYWOOD -- Dick Wolf admits his relaunch of Dragnet last spring was a little too "testosterone driven." So he's re-tooled the series, promoted Sgt. Joe Friday (Ed O'Neill) to a lieutenant, given him a fresh squad full of telegenic rookies and re-christened the show as L.A. Dragnet.
The series just barely squeaked in under ABC's renewal wire. Wolf, the man behind the Law & Order juggernaut, was probably given a second chance other producers would never get.
