Aisha Taylor along for the ride
By BILL BRIOUX

Aisha Taylor is best known as the sassy host of the chat TV recapper Talk Soup (Star! and E!). Tonight, she goes from soup to nuts, riding along as the host of Fifth Wheel (debuting tonight at 5 p.m. on CITY).

Each weeknight, Taylor provides the commentary as two couples pile into a stretch limousine and set out on a blind date. (In fact, Fifth Wheel is from the producers of Blind Date.)

"Yes, I'm the big mouth in the back seat," says Taylor, who was in Toronto last June for CITY's annual media open house.

Taylor basically makes with the smart-ass remarks as the couples venture out on their dates. It's exactly like having a stand-up comedian horn in on your big night.

As the couples begin to connect, a sexy, single "fifth wheel," who could be a celebrity, is added to the mix. Think Blind Date meets Temptation Island. Or Love Cruise. Or Chains Of Love. Or ElimiDate Deluxe. Or ... what did all these single people do before this reality craze caught on?

The tall, trim Taylor landed in the Talk Soup last February after a lengthy audition process. "There were a lot of people after that job," says Taylor, "and most of them were way better known than I was."

Talk Soup has quickly become one of the most sought-after gigs in Hollywood after fast-tracking such former hosts as Greg Kinnear and Craig Kilborn. Taylor stood out from the latest pack of recruits with a fearless, irreverent, take-no-prisoners approach. "I love that Mr. T," she cooed during one show. "He has a neck like a beef tree."
