PASADENA, Calif. - George Lopez says he’s proud that Justin Bieber’s initial stop on the late-night circuit came on Lopez Tonight.
During a media session on the set of Lopez Tonight during the Television Critics Association tour, Lopez was commenting on the fact that his show and Conan O’Brien’s show both attract the youngest audience in late-night TV, averaging out to about 33 years old.
“This was Justin Bieber’s first late-night talk show, so it was a place that he felt comfortable doing,” Lopez said. “I don’t think he’s allowed to stay up to see the show, but it’s nice that he stopped here first.”
Until recently, Lopez Tonight aired across Canada on TLN (Telelatino), whereas Conan airs on the Comedy Network and CTV.
In the U.S., though, both shows originate on TBS, and O’Brien’s move to that network pushed Lopez to midnight from his previous slot at 11 p.m.
“Listen, when I was at ABC, I got replaced by Cavemen,” Lopez said. “So to move an hour to bring Conan to TBS, it’s a franchise for the future.
“We’re both guys, you know, who haven’t turned 50 yet, and this could be a nice partnership that will last a long time.”
