Shane Meier can't let go of Matthew Shepard. "There's always going to be a little part of Matthew with me," he says. "It's not something you do and you forget about and you move on to the next project. It's a life-changer."
Meier, a native of Saskatoon, Sask., was picked from among many to star in The Matthew Shepard Story. He plays the 21-year-old University of Wyoming student who was lured from a bar by two men, driven to a remote field, savagely beaten and tied to a fence. Found 18 hours later by a mountain-bike rider, he lingered unconscious for five days before dying on Oct. 12, 1998.
