TV Show: New Girl

New situations await 'New Girl'
By Bill Harris, QMI Agency

Zooey Deschanel in "The New Girl."

New Girl isn't so new any more, but Zooey Deschanel's lead character is facing another new situation.

Season one began with Jess (Deschanel) coming off a bad breakup. Season two -- which emerges with two new episodes, Tuesday on Fox and Citytv -- begins with Jess experiencing an employment calamity.

"It definitely affects her life pretty deeply because this is something she has wanted to do her entire life and she considered teaching to be her calling," Deschanel said.

"So, it definitely is a blow to her. But I like how Jess is sort of open to new things and although she's upset about it, she throws herself into trying to find a new job and is pretty positive about things. It's a quality I like in the character."

The first episode of New Girl's new season features a hilarious cameo appearance by Parker Posey as a cocktail waitress hired to work a party organized by Schmidt (Max Greenfield). The second episode introduces a character played by David Walton who is attracted to Jess despite a case of mistaken identity.
