Winnipeg-born adventurer Byron Smith aims to file a video report live from the summit of Mount Everest on CBC Newsworld Ch. 45/23 at about 7 p.m. today.
The 39-year-old climber is among at least three Canadian teams aiming to reach the peak over the next week. Newsworld is planning a 90-minute Everest 2000 special beginning at 6 p.m., although Smith's success is by no means guaranteed. After a failed climb in 1998, Smith decided to head his own expedition this time around.
