The Office’s John Krasinski may soon be promoted to superhero.

He’s currently being considered for the role of Captain America in the film adaptation of the Marvel Comics character, the Deadline Hollywood website reports. Apparently Krasinski is one of several actors being screen-tested, including Gossip Girl’s Chace Crawford.

The project, called The First Avenger: Captain America, is due out in July 2011. From there, as the title suggests, whoever is cast would appear in multiple sequels and spin-offs, including 2012’s The Avengers.

Should he land it, the gig would be a dramatic departure for Krasinski, whose film credits (Leatherheads and Away We Go) have been comedic.
