PASADENA, Calif. -- The sports world is just so achingly, agonizingly, mind-numbingly serious. It's about time something punched a hole in all that pompousness.

Enter Onion SportsDome, which premieres Wednesday on the Comedy Network.

Onion SportsDome, which comes from the creators of the well-known satirical website and newspaper The Onion, basically is a TV sportscast a la SportsCentre on TSN, or Connected on Sportsnet.

The difference, of course, is that Onion SportsDome is playing it for comedy, although normal sportscasts can be unintentionally funny for their hyper-activity, infatuation with minutiae and multiple attacks on the senses.

Co-anchored by Alex Reiser (played by Matt Walton) and Mark Shepard (played by Matt Oberg), Onion SportsDome focuses on phony in-depth analysis, rumour-mongering and petty personal attacks.

"There is a recap of the last four years of MLS (Major League Soccer), and then it's done in about 40 seconds," said Oberg, giving an example of what we can expect.
