Upon hearing the news that CTV has acquired Canadian broadcast rights to a new reality series about pirates, we couldn't help but think of Jerry Seinfeld and his puffy shirt.
"You're going to be the first pirate," Kramer enthused in a classic episode of Seinfeld.
"But I don't want to be a pirate!" Jerry lamented.
Nonetheless, Mark Burnett Productions is seeking 16 people who actually want to be pirates for the reality show Pirate Master: The Adventure Begins.
The show will debut this summer on CTV and CBS, after Burnett's Survivor: Fiji -- which debuts tonight -- wraps up.
Pirate Master is an obvious attempt to cash in on popularity of the Pirates Of The Caribbean movies.
Casting is underway and production will begin soon in the Caribbean.
A host for the series will be announced at a later date.
Why not Johnny Depp, a.k.a. Captain Jack Sparrow?
In Pirate Master, 16 ordinary people living aboard a real pirate ship will compete in pursuit of hidden treasure: A bounty with a total value of $1 million.
Each week, one competitor will be "set adrift."
Equipped only with maps and compasses, the pirates will embark on intense, physical expeditions on a mysterious Caribbean island.
In an earlier deal, CTV also acquired the rights to Burnett's On The Lot, a collaboration with director/producer Steven Spielberg that will pit would-be movie-makers against each other.
On The Lot, which also will air on Fox, is scheduled to debut this spring.
