Rick Mercer bears it all
By -- Sun Media

Awww, is that ever cute!

Just to be clear, we're talking about the bear cubs that make a guest-starring appearance tonight on CBC's The Rick Mercer Report, rather than Rick Mercer himself. But hey, Mercer has his cute moments, too.

Anyway, tonight Mercer checks out the wildlife in Ontario's Algonquin Park. He assists in examining bear cubs and helps tally the park's moose population.

Mercer also takes a trip to Quebec and joins the Canadian Coast Guard's ice-breaking operation in the St. Lawrence River.

The Rick Mercer Report continues to have an exceptionally strong season for CBC. Last week, for example, the program attracted more than 1.1 million viewers across Canada.

The fact that the current-affairs-savvy and politically tuned-in Mercer continues to post such strong numbers when there are no elections on the horizon on either side of the Canada-U.S. border actually speaks very well for Mercer's personal charm.

The bear cubs are still cuter, though. Sorry, Rick.

SCHOOL IS IN

The six-part Canadian documentary series Combat School debuts tonight on Discovery. The series follows a platoon of 40 men and women from the time they start their training until they are declared battle-ready and deployed. Thanks to unprecedented access granted by the Canadian military and combat trainers, cameras subsequently are embedded with the platoon in Afghanistan where viewers witness how the soldiers' skills are put to the ultimate test when they encounter insurgents for the first time.

BOOB TUBERY

There's a particularly hilarious interview with comic actors Paul Rudd and Jason Segel tonight on CBC's The Hour with George Stroumboulopoulos ... The second season of the documentary series Driven by Vision debuts tomorrow night on Vision TV. It's an exploration of man-made worlds constructed by people with bizarre imaginations, from towering cathedrals of recycled junk, to castles built by hand from dug-up stones, to strange edifices with explicit messages to offend politicians or even charm old girlfriends ... And speaking of religion, tomorrow night in a new episode of Criminal Minds (CTV, CBS), the team investigates a series of deaths with religious overtones.
