SNL reality show shot down
By BILL HARRIS -- Sun Media

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. -- Saturday Night Live is too real for reality TV.

Lorne Michaels, the executive producer at SNL, confirmed that serious discussions have occurred at NBC with regard to turning the SNL dress rehearsal into a reality TV show, with skits vying to get on the real show later that night.

There also have been talks about a reality show in which people would compete to become an SNL cast member.

But to this point anyway, Michaels has put his foot down.

"Donald Trump is perfect at being Donald Trump, you know," said Michaels, referring to Trump's elimination show, The Apprentice.

"But for me to be in that role, I wouldn't have been comfortable doing it.

"We're not American Idol in that sense. Not everything has to be opened up to the public.

"It's not a bad idea. But it's a little bit what we make fun of, so it's hard to then go out and do the straight version of it."
