Simpsons' 'Diamond' Joe gores Bush
By BILL BRIOUX
At least one election last night was not a squeaker.

Springfield Mayor "Diamond" Joe Quimby, one of The Simpsons' leading scoundrels, was on his way to a landslide victory in his Internet bid for the presidency.

Despite (or because of) all the booze, women and lies, the cartoon candidate with the Kennedy cadence was well ahead as of yesterday afternoon.

Quimby was leading with 43% of the vote, compared to 24.2% for Al Gore and 23.4% for George W. Bush. Ralph Nader trailed the pack at a respectable 9.3%.

The mayor was unavailable for comment yesterday. An aide said he was "out polling the electorate."

Quimby's win would be the first for a cartoon character in U.S. elections since Dan Quayle.
