Bent Brits just wanna have fun in the lightning-quick sketch comedy series Smack the Pony, a new fave debuting on Bravo! Ch. 27 tonight at 10:45 p.m.
Helmed by Doon MacKichan, Sally Phillips and Fiona Allen, a trio of women on top of their comedic game, the series packs an adult punch with hilariously wicked orgasmic mockery, brassy jabs at mating and dating and cheeky girl-band music video spoofs.
Irreverence rules when a tearful mom pleading at a press conference for the return of her missing child bursts into hysterical laughter when she remembers he was last seen wearing a scouts uniform and realizes he's on a camping trip.
A mousy woman named Susan becomes the heroine in a series of video games, trouncing Zarr, Vixen Bitch Warrior, but losing a car race when she stops for lunch. And a fatal shooting at a party ends with the gunwoman muttering, "Sorry, I thought she was someone else."
Punctuated with a succession of dating club videos -- "I have normal breasts" -- and a confounding running gag in which the players pass out after images of men flash on the screen, this Pony smacks of Monty Python on estrogen.
Too bad there are only seven episodes in the starting gate.
