TV Shows: Survivor Palau

'Survivor' bore booted
By -- JAM! Showbiz

Survivor Borneo's Gervase Peterson can now breathe a sigh of relief. He is no longer the laziest contestant to ever appear on the reality show series. That dishonour goes to Ulong's Kim Mullen, the 25-year-old graduate student from Ohio.

If the edited footage is to be believed, Kim was as active as a turtle in a tar pit during her stay with the ill-fated Ulong Tribe. As her tribe mate James Miller put it, the most work Kim ever did at camp was drink from a coconut as she watched others toil. Utterly useless when it came to the majority of the challenges too, Kim and her slothful behaviour came to an end last night when Ulong lost their fourth Immunity Challenge in a row and cut her loose at Tribal Council.

Remarkably, while Ulong is well on their way to becoming one of the worst tribes ever on 'Survivor', they are nowhere near the records held by Marquesas' Maraamu or Pearl Islands' Morgan. Maraamu and Morgan both dropped the first six challenges. Maraamu lost four consecutive Immunity Challenges while Morgan fumbled the ball during the first three. So, for those keeping score at home, if Ulong bungles the next Immunity Challenge, they will hold the 'Survivor' record for the most Immunity Challenges defeats in succession.

The Survivors at the start of the broadcast were:

Ulong Tribe

1. Bobby Jon.
2. Stephanie.
3. Kimberly.
4. James.
5. Ibrehem.
6. Angie.

Koror Tribe

1. Ian.
2. Katie.
3. Tom.
4. Janu.
5. Gregg.
6. Jennifer.
7. Coby.
8. Caryn.
9. Willard.

Ulong Tribal Happenings (Night 8)

After granting Jeff his wish, the Tribe of Doom reflects at their campfire. Looking at what is left of Ulong, Stephanie cannot believe they have lost so many people.

Kim: She is (sob) Jeff is (sob) gone. He was a (sob) good friend (sob) and strong player but (sob) being voted out (sob) is what he wanted.

James tries to rally the troops. According to him, the reason why the out-of shape Koror keeps winning is because they're outwitting Ulong. He will be damned if Ulong goes to Tribal Council again.

Bobby Jon: There is no closeness at Ulong. They have to turn things around and need to learn from their mistakes. He fears they won't though.

Koror Tribal Happenings (Day 9)

Katie and 'Silent' Jennifer collect the tree mail which instructs the tribes to select a representative.

Oh, my goodness. Stop the presses! The producers are actually giving Jennifer a chance to speak. Who knows? Maybe she will say something vaguely interesting. Wait for it. Wait for it. Oh, crap. All she did was repeat what the tree mail stated. Sigh. So close yet so far, Jenn.

Koror gathers to discuss the tree mail. Coby brings up the fact that it could be a tribal switch and whoever is picked might not come back. The idea hushes everyone. Tom thinks that either Gregg or Ian should go. They have proven themselves to be strong leaders and quite clever when it comes to making good decisions. Coby, Caryn, Willard and Janu volunteer. Tom and the others ignore them and continue debating Ian over Gregg.

Coby: During the selection of a Koror representative, the division in Koror became quite apparent. It is Coby, Caryn, Willard and Janu against everybody else. It is five against four. Coby terms his group as the underdogs.

Ulong Tribal Happenings (Day 9)

Ulong ponders their pick. James nominates Stephanie. Stephanie would rather they draw straws. Kim volunteers.

Kim: Drawing straws is moronic and too impulsive. The tribe needs to think things through.

Ulong decides to wait until they can gather more information before making a choice. They decide to go fishing.

Reward Challenge

Host Jeff Probst arrives at Koror on a troop carrier. On it, is a huge crate. Koror meets Probst on the beach. Koror has chosen Ian as their representative. Probst informs Koror that this is all part of the Reward Challenge. Both tribes will be given a shower, a toilet seat, lumber, twine, wire and nails. Their job is to build the best bathroom they can. As the Koror representative, Ian gets to pick six tools from the shed (the huge crate). The tribes will be able to keep the tools they select. Ian is thrilled. His dad was a construction worker so this will be a piece of cake. Ian sits out Jenn, Coby and Janu. Probst states that he will be back in the morning with Jesse, the man who is responsible for building the Survivor challenges. Jesse decide which tribe's bathroom is better. Ian is hoping Koror will be happy with the judgments he made.

While Ulong is still out fishing, Probst waits for them on the beach. He asks Ulong who their representative is. Ulong fumbles and points fingers. Probst: You still haven't picked a representative yet? Give me someone. Stephanie nominates James. Finding out what the job entails, James is as pleased as punch. He used to build houses for a living. It is lucky Ulong selected him. He doesn't really want to be the leader but someone has to kick Ulong off their butts and put them to work.

Reward

  • The Survivor construction crew will build a new shelter for the winning tribe.

    Result

  • At Koror: Ian believes Koror will pull out all the stops with this one. Willard: Tom and Ian make a point of complementing everyone. Willard: Tom is the leader. He is the little motor that makes the train run. Time for 'Cryin' Caryn's Complaint of the Week. Caryn can't stand the way everyone bows down to Tom. The women can't even throw a stick on the fire without consulting with Tom first.

  • At Ulong: James is sure his skills will make for the better outhouse. When Stephanie makes a suggestion to James, he shrugs it off. Stephanie: James acts too much like a dad. He can be annoying at times. James instructs Angie on how to use a staple gun. Angie: She knows how to use a staple gun. When something breaks in her apartment, she is the one who fixes it. Kim whines to Stephanie. She is tired. She needs food. James: Kim is useless. They gave her the job of sewing. That way, she can still sit on her ass. Bobby Jon works like a madman chopping down trees. Kim sits and watches him. Bobby Jon: When he is involved in a project he puts his whole heart and soul into it. Winners keep fighting on no matter what. Kim: It sucks to be on a tribe with some many psycho workers. She terms herself as the smart one. She is just going to sit back and watch while they chop their own heads off. James asks Angie to sit on the potty and try it out. Angie won't. James tells her to quit complaining.

  • At Koror: Jesses arrives and Tom gives him a tour of their facilities. Probst reminds Koror that if they have won, the construction crew will arrive later on in the day.

  • At Ulong: The tribe is still working when Probst arrives. James shows off their bathroom that includes a sink area with toothbrushes. James says he is a redneck and they don't brush their teeth much. On the toilet, Ulong has written...For a good time, call Jeff Probst.

  • Winners: Koror.

    Koror Tribal Happenings (Day 10)

Ian is pleased with Koror's effort. If nothing else, they have a nice bathroom and a shower now. Koror sees a boat arriving. They cheer. Tom does a cartwheel on the beach.

'Cryin' Caryn: We are going to sleep soundly tonight.

    Ulong Tribal Happenings (Day 10)

Everyone waits to see if Probst will return. James: They will be back.

Ibrehem: They are keeping up hope but things are looking grim now.

    Koror Tribal Happenings (Day 10)

Ian: Their shelter is like a palace. Katie: They have a hammock, a platform to hang out on and a picnic table now.

As a "house warming gift", Koror is given two bottle of champagne.

Tom and Ian dance around. An inebriated 'Cryin' Caryn starts laughing hysterically. Sitting beside her, Coby is perplexed.

    Ulong Tribal Happenings (Night 10)

James is sure they didn't win. Stephanie: This is B.S. James: This loss will just feed Ulong's anger. They are going to run through Koror like a bulldozer.

    Ulong Tribal Happenings (Day 11)

Tree mail arrives. Stephanie and James figure the challenge must be some sort of gladiator battle. Stephanie begins practicing by beating the tar out of a tree. You go, girl! Bobby Jon: Ulong can't worry about the past. They have to focus on the present.

    Immunity Challenge

Castaways Jennifer Lyon and Stephanie LaGrossa in combat during the Immunity Challenge, "Sumo at Sea". (Photo: Monty Brinton/CBS.)
It is a sumo battle on a platform in the water. The players will use a cushion or pad of some sort to battle with. Both hands must remain on the pad at all times and they can't use their legs or feet as weapons. Koror sits out Ian, Katie and Willard.

    Reward

  • Immunity from Tribal Council.

    Result

  • Tom beats Bobby Jon. Stephanie defeats Jenn. Gregg bests Ibrehem. Angie bashes Caryn and then shouts out that they are not going to Immunity...Tribal Council again. Coby wins over James. Janu dunks Kim. Tom beats Bobby Jon. Stephanie bests Jenn. Ibrehem beats Gregg. Ibrehem shouts out...Now, you know how it feels. Get up. Angie defeats Caryn. Coby puts James down.

  • Winners: Koror.

    Ulong Pre-Tribal Council Happenings

Stephanie cannot believe Coby beat James in the final round.

James: He got beat by a homosexual but they work out all time and stuff.

Stephanie walks and talks with Angie. Steph is so sick of losing. She is about to flip out. It is James' fault. Ulong's track record is embarrassing. She is mortified. Stephanie and Angie agree that the women carried the challenge for Ulong.

James speaks to Kim. They aren't going to talk about who to vote off. They will all decide when they gave that pen in their hands.

James: The only work Kim does is drink from coconuts.

Kim and Stephanie discuss the possibility of voting out one of the men. Stephanie is worried the Ulong women are about to be picked off. Kim suggests the women band together and boot a man.

Ibrehem: The vote is a slam-dunk. Kim is not strong. He is going to vote out the weakest link.

Angie and Stephanie ponder voting a man off. They might need one though to do well at the Immunity Challenges.

Kim: The group won't make a decision until it is time.

    Ulong Tribal Council Happenings

Castaway, Kim Mullens has her torch snuffed out by Jeff Probst after being voted off of the Ulong Tribe. (Photo: Monty Brinton/CBS.)
Probst jokes that he has saved Ulong's seats. Probst reminds Ulong they have lost 5 out of the last 7 challenges. Stephanie: She wants to scream. Their best doesn't seem to be enough. Angie: The Reward loss bothered them. The Immunity loss put them over the edge. Bobby Jon thinks he has let his tribe down. Probst wants to get to the bottom of Ulong's troubles. He asks Kim about the fishing. Kim: James and Jon do that. The women just tag along. Probst: How useful is that? Kim complains that the women can't go fishing on their own. Stephanie believes the women could be self-sufficient if they had to. Probst suggests the women are carrying the tribe and the men need to step it up. Bobby Jon: He respects the Ulong women. They are stronger than most men. James: He admits a hairdresser whooped him. Kim: Doesn't believe the men have a burning passion to win the game.

James picks Kim. She is lazy and not helping the tribe. Kim picks James. He is too bossy.

    Final Voting

    1. Bobby Jon: Kim.
    2. Stephanie: Kim.
    3. Kimberly: James.
    4. James: Kim.
    5. Ibrehem: Kim.
    6. Angie: Kim.

    Tribal Council Victim:

    Kim Mullen.

Probst to Ulong: You have had a demoralizing first 11 days. What can you do to change the outcome?

    Parting Comments

  • "I had a lot of fun playing Survivor. I wish it had lasted quite a bit longer but unfortunately I guess tonight was my night to go. I hope that the girls really stick up for themselves because lord knows, the guys have proven they are nothing special on our tribe. I really hope that in the end somebody from Ulong wins and not somebody from Koror." -- Kim Mullen .

    On the next 'Survivor': Television.

"Next week, 'Survivor' moves to Wednesday night. While Gregg and Jenn get cozy at Koror. Coby: They got to think we are stupid if we can't tell they are together. The Ulong Tribe gets lost. Bobby Jon and Angie are stumbling around the jungle. Bobby Jon asks Angie not to jump down his throat. And the game takes an incredible turn. The shocked Survivors are shown on floating platforms.

    On the next 'Survivor': Internet.

"Low morale for one tribe sinks even lower when they abandon their camp in search of a cave for shelter from a storm...and get lost. One castaway neglects fire duty and dozes off, and a tribemate becomes bitter having to lose valuable sleep to pick up the slack. One tribe is taunted and tormented as they have to sit and watch the other tribe enjoy a great reward right in front of them. Both tribes face several twists that they never could have expected that throw them off their game. Both tribes face several unexpected twists that throw them off their game. "

    Powell's Thoughts:

Double boot: Next week is the episode everyone has been speculating about. Two Survivors are booted. That much is clear. How and why is not. It might involve the winner of a special challenge getting the chance to vote off the strongest member of the opposing team but having to dump their weakest in return.

Mighty Koror: Unless there is a tribal switch or Ulong makes peace with Lady Luck, it is looking more and more like Koror stomps Ulong into the ground. One wonders now if Ulong will ever win an Immunity Challenge and if the rumours of a one person Ulong Tribe are true. Stephanie could be the last Ulong member standing but one wonders how the producers might handle a Tribal Council consisting of only two tribe mates.

Bobby Jon or Ibrehem: There is wild speculation about these two as in who outlasts the other on Ulong. Bobby Jon is receiving a ton of positive screen time. Could the producers be preparing us for his upcoming boot or is he in it for the long haul?

Tensions at Koror: Finally we are seeing the alliance divisions at Koror. What we need to remember is the game has just begun and there is a lot of time left for these alliances to morph and change.
