Morgan is gone f |
Hocus-pocus. Abracadabra. Poof! She's gone.
Continuing its unforgiving mean streak, 'Survivor Guatemala' gave the hook to magician's assistant Morgan McDevitt last night. Required to feed one of its own to the crocs at Tribal Council, the Yaxha Tribe voted unanimously to keep hard working fishmonger Lydia and ditch Morgan who lounged about like a lizard in the afternoon sun while everyone else busted their butts at camp.
It took a little convincing though as returning player Stephenie Lagrossa and some of the others had elder tribemate Lydia in their sights at first. Along came Brian 'Richard Hatch Version 2.0' Corridan giving Lydia the heads up and working some of that sneaky 'Survivor' diplomacy to prevent the fishmonger from being filleted. Lydia's mournful plea to tribemate Gary Hogeboom didn't hurt either.
It is safe to assume that Brian has made a friend for life in Lydia. At the same time though he might have made an enemy too as he called out ex-NFL quarterback Hogeboom on his former profession at camp. Although Nakum's resident sportscaster Danni Boatwright unmasked Gary at the Immunity Challenge, it was Brian who repeated the revelation in front of Yaxha. The game of cat and mouse begins.
The Survivors at the start of the broadcast were:
Yaxha Tribe
1. BRIAN CORRIDAN .
2. GARY HOGEBOOM.
3. RAFE JUDKINS.
4. MORGAN McDEVITT.
5. LYDIA MORALES.
6. JAMIE NEWTON .
7. AMY O'HARA.
8. BRIANNA VARELA.
9. STEPHENIE LaGROSSA.
Nakum Tribe
1. BRANDON BELLINGER.
2. DANNI BOATWRIGHT.
3. MARGARET BOBONICH.
4. CINDY HALL.
5. JUDD SERGEANT.
6. BROOKE STRUCK.
7. BLAKE TOWSLEY .
8. BOBBY JON DRINKARD.
Nakum Tribal Happenings (Night Three)
Somebody should have left the porch light on as Nakum can barely find their way back to camp. Bouncing off trees and stumbling over rocks, Nakum finally arrives back at home sweet home.
Bobby Jon has been to Tribal Council so often he feels like he pays rent there.
Maj. Margaret "Hot Lips" Bobonich had such a sick feeling going to Tribal Council for the first time. It might've been the stress of voting out a beloved tribemate or the tree bark topped with termites she ate. It is hard to know.
Yaxha Tribal Happenings (Day Four)
The Yaxha's have a good laugh at the expense of the Nakums. To them, they look like they are all work and no play.
'Richard Hatch Version 2.0' thinks Yaxha is just an amazing tribe. Doesn't everyone at the start of the series until they start losing challenges? Enjoy the feeling while it lasts, '2.0'.
Jamie believes Yaxha has bonded well even though they are from diverse backgrounds. When they come together, they are brilliant. Except for that Steph girl, Jamie. She's gotta go. Right?
Gary 'Don't call me Hogeboom' gives us the play by play. Nobody has asked about what he did 15...count them...15...years ago so he ain't admitting nothin'.
Steph and some of the other women braid their hair. Morgan offers her golden locks so Steph can twist them into a pretzel.
Steph: This is a fun tribe. They have good morale. They have to keep the family together.
Busted Blake is still gasping and wheezing like he is a 90-year-old chain smoker. He cannot breathe right and he hasn't slept. Maj. Margaret "Hot Lips" Bobonich's diagnosis? He's plenty sick. Maj. Margaret comforts Blake.
Brandon is sympathetic. Blake is a good guy but...what a wuss! When the going gets tough, the tough get going. It is time for Blake to "Man up!" declares Brandon.
Reward Challenge
An obstacle course containing a ramp, a net walk and a huge spider web rope deal over water. The object is to make it through the course and untie bags on the web ropes without falling in the water. If you do, back to the start for you. Everyone must go once before the tribes can start sending their chosen picks instead. First tribe with all of their bags back, wins.
Reward
The standard fishing stuff.
Yaxha sits Amy out.
Result
Bobby Jon drags his team down. Rafe though has trouble even pulling himself up on the ladder leading out of the water and back to the net walk. Blake is like a superman on the course. It is a close, close battle but...
Winners: Nakum.
Nakum Tribal Happenings (Day Five)
At the "butt crack" of dawn - Brandon's words NOT mine - some of the Nakum paddle out into the mud wrestling pit and test out the new fishing equipment. Acting like they scored a whale shark, the Nukes pull in some guppies. Lydia jumps at the chance to fry them up. Good eats all around.
Yaxha Tribal Happenings (Day Five)
The Yax-heads ponder cooking up some corn as a "treat". Rafe claims the food situation is desperate at Yaxha. Someone catches a grasshopper. Everyone salivates.
Gary: Morgan is a waste of oxygen. She does nothing at camp.
At the shore, Lydia constructs a homemade cove. She will cover it with a burlap sack when she is done so that she can catch some minnows. Sounds like a plan, Stan.
Gary and Rafe go hunting and gathering. They rip apart a tree and find an ant's nest. For Rafe and Gary, dinner is served.
Steph: That so nasty. As long as she has water and corn, she will not eat ants. She will suffer until they can win a food reward.
Lydia brings back her catch of the day. She starts serving up the minnows. Lydia: The way to a man's heart is through his stomach. Someone needs to tell her Judd is on the other tribe.
Nakum Tribal Happenings (Day Five)
Blake is in desperate need of an oxygen tent. Maj. Margaret "Hot Lips" Bobonich hovers over Blake.
Judd: Blake doesn't do anything. Maj. Margaret fusses over him all day long.
Judd and Brandon chat. They agree Blake is not pulling his weight. No wonder he has strength for the challenges. He sleeps all day.
Judd: I want to be the hero.
Nakum gets word of the Immunity Challenge. Bobby Jon guesses it will be a tug-of-war. Danni: She knows Gary's real identity. He was a quarterback and none of them are very athletic. Ouch! That's gotta hurt.
Immunity Challenge
Tug-of-war between tribes in a filthy, dirty mud pit. Yeah. Mud wrestling equals ratings! The tribemates can interfere with one another. If at the 15-minute mark there is no winner, the challenge switches to individual bouts.
Reward
Immunity from Tribal Council.
Brianna sits Amy out.
Result
The first battle ends without a winner so it is individual matches. Judd faces off against Gary. Danni shouts to Judd: He is a quarterback. You are a linebacker. Judd wins. Jamie fights Brandon. Brandon wins. Judd takes on Jamie. Judd wins.
Winners: Nakum.
Yaxha Pre-Tribal Council Happenings
Rafe: They tried but the couldn't heave Nakum's fat guys. As everyone washes the mud off, Steph is worried. Steph: You always got to be watching. You have to always be on your toes.
Jamie, Gary, Rafe and Brianna meet. It is no surprise when Jamie suggests they take the opportunity to get rid of Steph.
The news makes its way back to Steph. Steph: I refuse to go early. She calls the plot to boot her so early in the game "retarded".
While they share a meal, Brain mentions what Danni said about Gary at the challenge. Gary laughs it off and walks away.
Gary: My plan is to deny it. If they find out the truth, I will be voted off immediately.
Gary, Rafe, Steph and Amy debate whether they should bump off Morgan or Lydia. Steph says they can catch fish just like Lydia did. Gary is still in favour of voting off Morgan. Amy is a bit ticked to here Lydia's name mentioned. She loves her to death. Gary: You cannot afford to get emotional in this game. Gary shares the news with Brian. Brian is not pleased. He says Lydia is valuable and hasn't cost them a challenge yet.
Brian meets with Lydia at the fire pit. He informs her of the plot. Brian advises Lydia: Tell people why you should be here. Lydia knows her head is on the chopping block.
Lydia speaks with Gary. She has tried her best to endure everything that has been thrown at them and she hasn't buckled. She asks Gary if she is safe. Gary doesn't answer. Lydia: I am not ready to go home. I will do anything.
Rafe: The vote must be unified. They cannot allow the tribe to be fractured so early on.
Yaxha Tribal Council Happenings
Steph felt welcomed by her tribe. The game is bunch of lies half the time. Jamie says that Steph is a threat because she is more like a boy. Lydia can endure anything. She won't quit on the tribe ever. Morgan: They have all connected with one another. She hopes she isn't saying goodbye tonight.
Brain votes for Morgan. He hopes his plan worked. Morgan picks Lydia. It was a hard decision for her.
Final Voting
1. BRIAN CORRIDAN: Morgan.
2. GARY HOGEBOOM: Morgan.
3. RAFE JUDKINS: Morgan.
4. MORGAN McDEVITT: Lydia.
5. LYDIA MORALES: Morgan.
6. JAMIE NEWTON: Morgan.
7. AMY O'HARA: Morgan.
8. BRIANNA VARELA: Morgan.
9. STEPHENIE LaGROSSA: Morgan.
Tribal Council Victim:
MORGAN McDEVITT.
Parting Comments
"Wow. I didn't really see that one coming...at all. I mean, I don't know why I got voted off. I just feel really naïve. Either way, it was such an amazing experience. I got to live in Guatemala and I did a lot of things I didn't think I could do so the experience was worth every second." -- MORGAN McDEVITT .
On the next 'Survivor': Television.
Nakum doesn't let a few crocs stop them from fishing. Brandon: I have never felt more alive in my entire life. At Yakha, Amy is in trouble. Amy has hurt her ankle and it is swollen. Amy: You will have to stick needles in my eyeballs. I won't give up.
On the next 'Survivor': Internet.
Smoldering heat forces some Survivors to cool off in the water, risking an encounter with crocodiles. As a tribe attempts to rebuild their shelter, one member takes matters into their own hands and irritates the others. Causing sleepless nights, an inconsiderate howler monkey drives one castaway crazy. A termite-infested log becomes a delicacy for some castaways desperate for a change in their diet.
Powell's Thoughts:
Things are looking tough as far as predictions go...but I like the challenge. The first boots are usually hard because there isn't much storyline info to go on. The inside info remains quite scarce.
Who is running the Yaxha Tribe any way? Steph or Gary...or neither. It seems they are not ready to let Steph lead or they would have targeted Lydia instead of Morgan. Maybe Steph doesn't have as much pull as we are lead to believe. Steph has identified Jamie as a foe as well. She knows he is gunning for her and cannot be trusted. If Gary and Steph team up, they could be running the show.
Gary cannot have liked Brian's veiled accusation yet Brain plan to save Lydia worked. One wonders if he will pay the price though.
Man, is Bobby Jon's stock taking a header. If he doesn't watch out, he might be voted off before the merge. It is looking more and more like the women will endure any culling at Nakum.
How could Danni know Gary was an ex-football player when she would have been 15 at the time he was hurling pigskin? Curious that.
What was Probst talking about when he said Brianna had another reason for being on 'Survivor'? We have yet to see her story develop it seems.
