TV Show: Survivor 16

'Survivor' winner crowned
By -- Sun Media

Parvati Shallow takes the $1M prize on the reality series Survivor: Micronesia.

The second time was a charm for island flirt Parvati Shallow.

The Vero Beach, Fla., native is $1 million richer after winning Survivor: Micronesia -- Fans vs. Favourites last night.

Parvati, 25, finished sixth on Survivor: Cook Islands three seasons back -- but this time she took it all the way to the end.

She became Survivor's 16th millionaire by pulling in five votes to runnerup Amanda Kimmel's three from a jury of previous castoffs. Amanda -- also a returning player -- appeared to have had this one in the bag, but Parvati's flirtatious ways (oh, and she was pretty smart too) had her laughing all the way to the bank.

The road to wealth didn't come easy for the pint-sized charity organizer, who currently resides in Los Angeles. Last night's two-hour finale was agonizing enough from the couch -- never mind the Micronesian jungle -- as the final four was quickly rounded down.

In a season that originally pegged past players against megafans, but merged tribes halfway through, Natalie Bolton found herself the sole remaining fan. Well, that didn't last long.

Then went Cirie Fields, who just couldn't go down without a fight. Known for being able to convince people to do anything in the most subtle manner, she could clearly get into the jury's good books come elimination time.

But being in the final three guarantees you'll get that final meeting with the jury, right? Usually. But things weren't going to work out as smoothly as the ladies hoped this time around. After spending the last four weeks blindsiding their fellow survivors, the girls club took a hit and were told that they'd have to endure one last immunity challenge: balancing metal balls on chunks of wood (which appeared to have been a lot harder than it sounds).

Amanda proved to have the most stable forearms, and won that chic immunity necklace that's all the rage right now (OK, not really). It seemed like a great prize -- until she realized she would have to choose whether Cirie or her BFF Parvati would sit beside her in the Top 2.

Clearly, Parvati was her gal. She trusted her "gut feeling" and nixed Cirie from the competition -- a move she's probably beating herself over at this moment.

Or not. Cirie did have that whole husband and kids thing going for her, and becoming a millionaire would help with the mortgage and all that kind of stuff.

On Survivor, the jury always has the final word. And man, did previous castoffs James Clement, Ozzy Lusth, Eliza Orlins, Alexis Jones, Erik Reichenbach, Jason Siska, Natalie and Cirie have a lot to say. From Eliza's bitter words to Amanda ("Listening to you talk made me want to kill myself sometimes."), to Natalie's saucy question about how Parvati's teasing demeanor played out in the bedroom ("You flirted with me," she said coyly. "I'm not complaining.")

Best of all was Ozzy's ode to Amanda. The scruffy-yet-adorable nature boy who was ousted with an immunity idol in his back pocket a few weeks back tore a strip off Parvati for trashing their friendship, backstabbing him and most of all, preventing him from spending more time with his beloved Amanda. He then turned to Amanda with dollar signs in his eyes and said: "I honestly feel like I'm starting to fall in love with you."

Too bad the votes didn't turn out in Amanda's favour (hmm, wonder if the lovebirds are going to hook up). Host Jeff Probst took that big ol' ballot box all the way to New York so the winner could be revealed live in the last 10 minutes of the show. This gave Parvati and Amanda plenty of time to put on fresh clothes, makeup and hopefully some weight --all of which proved to be a complete waste of time because it all ended so suddenly.

Ah well, all of you devoted castaways have no reason to fret. Producers at CBS are already working on a 17th season of Survivor and rumour has it it's going to be filmed in high definition.
