No matter which way you look at it, the Ogakor Tribe won Survivor 2. Tina
Wesson, Keith Famie and Colby Donaldson, the core members of Ogakor whose
alliance endured all the trials and tribulations of Outback life and the
cutthroat gameplay that surrounds Survivor, put in motion the final phase
of their master plan by getting rid of Elisabeth Filarski, the last member
of the Kucha Tribe at the thirteenth Tribal Council vote. In the beginning
of the game things didn't look good for Ogakor. Kucha had dominated a large
majority of the challenges capturing the precious food that came along with
them. While Kucha had high spirits and were well-fed (due to Michael
Skupin's hunting as well), Ogakor was hungry and dejected.
The turning point for Ogakor came when the two tribes merged into one. At
that time neither Ogakor nor Kucha had the upper-hand at Tribal Council.
The power shifted once the newly amalgamated tribe -- Barramundi -- held
its first vote. Everyone voted down tribal lines so the balloting was
deadlocked. Either Ogakor's Colby Donaldson or Kucha's Jeff Varner was
heading home. Since Varner had two votes against him at previous Tribal
Councils and Donaldson had none, Kucha's Varner was ousted paving the way
for Ogakor to turn the tables on Kucha and fundamentally control the rest
of the game picking off Kucha members as the opportunities presented
themselves. With Filarski joining the Survivor Jury, it is now between
Colby Donaldson, Keith Famie and Tina Wesson to see who will win the second
edition of Survivor on next week's finale.
The remaining Survivors at the start of the broadcast were:
Barramundi Tribe
1. Elisabeth Filarski: Footwear designer.
2. Colby Donaldson: Custom auto designer.
3. Keith Famie: Chef and restaurant owner.
4. Tina Wesson: Nursing assistant.
Barramundi Tribe Happenings (Day 37)
Holy crow. The show didn't open with the Survivors getting up in the
morning. I am shocked. I am stunned. What a startling development. As the
last Kucha member, Elisabeth ponders her inevitable fate. She is finding it
difficult without Rodger around mainly because he did all the chores while
everyone else except Keith sat on their butts. Case in point, Elisabeth and
Tina sunbathe their anorexic bodies on the beach while yapping about how
much they miss their families. The Colbster (as he calls himself) lets us
in on a little secret. He communicates with his mom via telepathy every
day. Methinks he is spending too much time in the sun without that goofy
cowboy hat on. If you think that is weird, the Survivors pass the time by
playing this little game where Colby pretends to go to the "convenience
store" and use the "ATM". See what Greg and his "nature phone" started?
The tribe collects their tree-mail and Tina speaks the truest words she
ever has on the series when she rouses the sleeping Survivor by calling
them "lazybones". Preach on, sister!
Reward Challenge
The producers have transplanted aspects of earlier challenges into the
final Reward Challenge. The blindfolds, ropes maze, a puzzle and the
fire-water see-saw thingy are all involved in this one.
Reward
A sport utility vehicle from a Survivor sponsor, a hot meal, a hot
shower and the chance to sleep overnight in the tent of said vehicle.
Result
Out host Jeff reminds everyone (especially Colby who is accused of
"cheating" on the rope maze challenge before) that at least one of the
connectors must remain attached to a rope at all times. Keith is told he
can't lift the sliding pieces of the puzzle he has to put together. Maybe
he figures if the producers will bend the rules for Colby they will for him
as well. No dice there.
Winner: Colby.
Colby is grateful as he has never owned a new car before. He's gonna
ride this winning streak as long as he can.
Barramundi Tribe Happenings (Day 38)
Elisabeth's hair is falling out. To prove it's true to us and the other
tribe members, she pulls out huge clumps of it at will in the hopes of
establishing a Hair Club For Women deal once this Survivor thing is
done.
To brighten the spirits of our famished Survivors the sadistic
producers give them a scale and a mirror to toy with. This provides hours
of amusement to the game show hamsters as they revel in how much weight
they've lost due to their utter lack of hunting or fishing skills.
Acting like Kung Fu's Caine, Keith decides it's time for him to "walk
the Earth". He regularly leaves camp to hike out into the Outback alone
where he contemplates the meaning of his existence, his place in the world,
where his life is heading and how to scam the million dollars from the
other dolts.
Tina and Liz give Colby a bouquet of flowers as a "car warming" gift.
Colby is appreciative dispensing hugs in return never once thinking that is
might be part of someone's strategy.
Pass the wine because here comes the cheese. Jeff enters the camp to
take Colby to his vehicle. He wonders aloud where Keith is. Once Colby sets
his eyes on his prize, the episode turns into a full-fledged car commercial
with Colby acting as a used car salesman and extolling the virtues of the
vehicle. Lame. Lame. Triple lame. Jeff sits down to dine with Colby then
leaves as the surprise guest arrives...it's Colby's momma! Groan! It breaks
Momma Colbster's heart to see how frail her baby boy is. Viewers are
subjected to minutes of inane mom and son banter that concludes with them
both lying beside each other inside the sport utility vehicle's pop-up
tent. Ummm. Okay.
Barramundi Tribe Happenings (Day 39)
Colby takes his morning shower as Momma Colbster takes pictures of him.
I could comment on that but I ain't going there.
Back at camp, the eagle-eyed Survivors are eating dinner while a few
feet away the container which holds their fresh water was left unsealed and
the contents are pouring out. Gee, nothing gets past these guys does it?
Momma Colbster joins the Survivors at their camp. She relays to them what
has happened in the outside world since the game began and furnishes them
with care packages from home. Keith receives pictures of his children. He
walks away from the others as he wipes away the tears that are flowing.
Tina sucks up to Colby by saying that Momma has done a fine job raising her
boy and that she would proud if her daughter brought home a guy like him.
Fortunately, Tina doesn't know about Colby's illegal drag racing and public
drunkenness charges. Keith promises to cook Momma Colby dinner in the
future. Colby cries as Momma departs in a helicopter. In his care package
he finds a Texas flag bandanna. Colby says the only person he is loyal to
is Tina.
Immunity Challenge
A memory game in which objects are hidden under mega tarps or shells.
The Survivors take turns trying to make matches. The player with the most
matches wins. Oddly, two piles of Kangaroo excrement are amongst the paired
objects.
Reward
Immunity from Tribal Council.
Result
Take a guess.
Winner: Colby.
Barramundi Tribe Happenings
Keith combs his beard. It's anyone's game, he says. Once again, Tina
describes her feeling of paranoia. Colby is figuring out the best way to
pocket the money. "I don't want to go!" Elisabeth whines as they depart for
Tribal Council.
Tribal Council
Tina responds to Jeff's question about Colby's success at the
challenges by saying she does not resent him and admires his efforts. Yeah,
right. Keith still feels competitive but is finding it harder and harder to
gear up for them. Colby is concerned about the jury and what they will
think of him. Jeff asks Elisabeth about the reasons why she is going to
vote the way she will tonight. Elisabeth replies that just like momma and
poppa taught her, she lets her conscience be her guide.
Keith casts his vote for Elisabeth. He would love for his daughter to
hang out with her as he thinks she is a positive person. Elisabeth writes
down Keith's name. Her reasoning is that even though he isn't as cocky any
longer, he still acted that way. She says it is nothing personal.
Final Voting
1. Elisabeth Filarski: Keith.
2. Colby Donaldson: Elisabeth.
3. Keith Famie: Elisabeth.
4. Tina Wesson: Elisabeth.
Parting Comments
"My part of the game is over. It has been the most trying experience of
my life filled with the most highs and lows in a short period of time that
I could have ever imagined. I know they just didn't want me to get into the
final two because I would have kicked some major butt in that situation. "
-- Elisabeth Filarski.
Powell's Comments
Next week on Survivor, the episode fans dread and desire the most. The
last portion of the game plays itself out and the winner of Survivor 2 will
be announced live. In the promo, CBS declares that even the Survivors
themselves don't know how the jury voted. As with the first Survivor
series, everything hangs on the last Immunity Challenge. If Colby wins, he
and Tina will be the final two unless he decides that his odds are better
with Keith at his side. If Keith or Tina are victorious, they will most
likely stick by each other as they have done the entire game and vote out
Colby. As an Australian paper reported, the last Immunity Challenge could
involve a boat or canoe race along the Herbert River.
