Episode Six: Susan quits 'Survivor'
By -- JAM! Showbiz

An enraged Susan Hawk left the 'Survivor' game last night.

Usually a top-notch reality show with superior production values, casting and gameplay, 'Survivor' reached a new low last night. A low which might alter what fans think about their favourite contestants and maybe the series as a whole.

Distressed by an altercation between her and Richard Hatch at last week's Immunity Challenge, Susan Hawk, the outspoken truck driver who once owned a hunting and fishing camp in Ontario, quit the game before the Reward Challenge was even held.

As the two tribes arrived at the challenge, host Jeff Probst asked if anyone had any comments to make about Richard Hatch 'sorta being inappropriate'.

"I was sexually violated. To have some guy come up...he passed a half a dozen people on platforms and he never touched them," said Sue maintaining that a naked Hatch deliberately rubbed against her in an obscene fashion as she attempted to get around him on a plank.

When Probst tried to interrupt and share his thoughts, Sue cut him off.

"He went too far. He crossed the line and he crossed the line with me," Sue stated.

Probst attempted to speak. Sue continued on.

"You didn't see it because his back was to you and he's too big a (bleeped expletive) slob to see around. I was violated, humiliated, dehumanized and totally spent, Jeff. It wasn't 'sort of', Jeff," shouted Susan announcing that she wanted to leave the game because her emotions were "pushed to the ground".

"So, you say you are done with the game...as in you want out of the game?," asked Probst.

"I'm done. I am walking away," replied Sue.

Probst then questioned Sue about whether it mattered if Richard was no longer a part of the game since he was voted out.

"No. My mind left this game 24 hour ago," she replied.

Probst called for a boat to take Sue away. Sue hugged most of the members of her tribe, Probst then consoled her as they walked across the beach to the awaiting boat.

Later back at camp, the Chapera Tribe held a mock moment of silence for her departure. Rob Mariano sang a rendition of 'Ding. Dong. The Witch Is Dead!' while Tom Buchanan danced a jig.

In a testimonial, Alicia Calaway ripped on Tom for his unkind behavior.

"I know 'Big Tom' and her didn't get along but his insensitivity in doing the 'Sue's Gone' dance...I think it was pretty crummy," said Alicia.

Mogo Mogo tribe member Kathy Vavrick-O'Brien had a different take on things in her testimonial.

"I don't like her for it, I am sorry. I know she went through a lot, still, you gotta learn how to contain your emotions. I was really offended that she'd bring us that far into her core of hatred. I didn't like it. I don't know if that's mean-spirited but that's how I feel," said Kathy.

Besides the explosive situation involving Susan's decision to leave the series, not much of anything happened on the broadcast causing die-hard 'Survivor' fans to ridicule the show as one of the worst ever.

"No final words, no real immunity challenge. This is getting really weird. I was all hyped up for all stars but this is getting to be something like a joke," stated 'merryz93' on the 'Survivor Sucks' message board.

"When there's nothing more interesting to show than a fight between f---ing Shii Ann and f---ing Colby, you know you're in trouble...," stated 'ag' on the same board.

"This season is making me nostalgic for Thailand," chimed in 'Pearls of Wisdom' last night.

The remaining Survivors at the start of the broadcast were:

Chapera Tribe
1. Alicia Calaway.
2. Amber Brkich
3. Rob Mariano.
4. Susan Hawk.
5. Tom Buchanan.
6. Rupert Boneham.
7. Jenna Lewis.

Mogo Mogo Tribe
1. Colby Donaldson.
2. Kathy Vavrick-O'Brien.
3. Lex Van Den Berghe.
5. Shii Ann Huang.
6. Ethan Zohn.
7. Jerri Manthey.

At the start, CBS cautions us with the same warning from episode six. With last week's debacle, it just doesn't carry the same power. Sigh. Lower expectations to be sure.

Mogo Mogo Tribal Happenings

'Wicked Witch' Jerri: She was stunned by Richard Hatch's 'big scramble' to save his own skin. Showing she has all the independent thought of an android, Jerri lets us in on her strategy to vote out Hatch. As Mogo Mogo got ready to head to Tribal Council, Jerri asked Kathy whose name to write down. Kathy said 'Hatch'.

The unholy coven of Kathy, 'She-Devil' Shii-Ann and Jerri gather in the water. Kathy is questioned about being the swing vote to ditch 'King Richard'. Kathy suggests that she saved 'The Colbster' from being kicked to the curb.

Kathy: She could've betrayed Colby but she feared repercussions from Lex back at camp. He would've never trusted her again if she went against the plan.

'She-Devil' Shii-Ann: Fawns all over Kathy's "brilliant" strategy. She is an amazing "power player". Is there anyone the 'She-Devil' doesn't like? That's it, darling. Play to the cameras and the audience at home some more. It is not like your strategy is too transparent or anything. Wench.

Chapera Tribal Happenings

'Peeping Tom' and Rupert 'Blackbeard' work on a new spear while the others snooze. Rupert nicks himself. No problem. It just proves the spear will get the job done.

Tom: Likes Rupert but it might cost him later in the game. Especially if Rupert takes his place as the father figure of sorts in the tribe.

Rupert 'Blackbeard' is in his glory. The provider role is an open field and he wants to capitalize on that opportunity. While Rupert dives in and starts putting the spear to use while Sue harvests some snails or oysters. Rupert scores a good haul while Susan drops all of her shells and has to gather them up again. Looking on, Tom and 'The Robfather' ridicule Rupert. Ever the complimentary person, Rob calls Rupert 'Grizzly Adams'. Real nice.

Rob: It is okay by him if Rupert continues to feed him until such a time when he must be voted off. That decision will be made by 'The Robfather' of course. Rupert better keep his belly full.

Mogo Mogo Tribal Happenings

'She-Devil' Shii-Ann and Colby have a meeting of the minds in the hovel. Colby calls Shii-Ann out once again...this time to her face. He has no respect for someone who refuses to make a decision and allows other people to be the 'bad guys' when it comes to voting people off. He had to mislead Richard before the last Tribal Council. She is letting other people do the lying for her.

Shii-Ann: It wasn't smart of Colby to point out her under the radar strategy at Tribal Council. She considered that a "direct attack" on her.

Colby: Shii-Ann is playing an "easy game". He doesn't hold that strategy in high esteem.

Shii-Ann: Ridicules Colby on his lecture. He is Captain America with his white teeth. His talk put her to sleep. Blah. Blah. Blah. Gee, know she knows how we feel sitting here at home listening to her egotistical babble.

Chapera Tribal Happenings

Alicia 'The Warrior Princess': Is not sure whether she trusts Rupert and Jenna right now. It's too early to gauge them.

Chapera discusses how great it would be for 'King Richard' to have been voted out. Rupert says he would've sent Hatch packing in a heartbeat. The conversation stirs up Sue's emotions. She accuses Hatch of thrusting his hips at her and rubbing against her. For doing that, Richard doesn't deserve to be on 'All-Stars'. If Mogo turfed Richard, she vows to hug them all.

Chapera Tribal Happenings

Sue: The nights are long. She keeps reliving what happened at the Immunity Challenge. She keeps seeing flashes of the incident in her head. Susan begins to sob. Why did he touch her? Why didn't he just walk past her?

Am-bore and 'The Warrior Princess' discuss Susan's state of mind. Alicia believes that Susan is upset at how her husband may react to the situation. As a sorrowful Sue lies on the beach, Alicia attempts to soothe her pain. She tells Sue that everyone is worried about her. Susan confirms that she is concerned about her husband of twenty years and wonders if there is something they (the producers?) could've done.

Alicia: Susan couldn't control her tears. Alicia tried but there was nothing she could do to calm Susan down.

Some members of Chapera debate the situation. Rob says that Susan is a smart player. Susan's actions could be honest or they could be a strategy on her part. In serious happenings like this though, the players can't fool around. She must be given the benefit of the doubt. Nobody knows what Susan is thinking.

Am-bore: Playing the 'Survivor' games gives you more time to think and dwell on things. If it had of occurred outside of the game, maybe Susan might've reacted differently.

Rupert offers Susan some food. She declines.

Rupert: Susan is distant. He believes she has thrown in the towel. She could've handled the situation differently. She has her own agenda now.

Tom: He doesn't need Susan around. Stick a fork in her. She is done.

Mojo Mojo Tribal Happenings

Being sensitive to her other tribe members, Jerri has drawn up a list of fantasy food items. Yep. It is a replay of all that idiotic food talk from 'Survivor: Australia'. Hidden out of view in the hovel, Kathy and Shii-Ann quietly rip on Jerri. Yack! Yack! Blah. Blah.

Kathy: Is miffed at Jerri chattering about food and fueling her cravings.

Shii-Ann: Another glowing testimony. She is hungry and misses Richard Hatch already. Someone vote the 'She-Devil' off already. The overly complimentary testimonials from her are getting way out of control. Retch. Retch.

It's time for 'Fishing The Survivor Way'...with your new host..Lex Van Den Berghe. Knowing that 'King Richard' was so territorial when it came to the provider duties, Lex didn't want to step on his toes until he was sent to the Loser Lodge. Lex and his special guest Ethan head down to the water. Blending in with the immobile rocks, Ethan sits on the shore while Lex does all the work. You see, Lex is an accomplished fisherman. He just didn't want anyone to know that. Holding your cards close to your chest...and all that jazz.

Lex returns with a bountiful catch. Everyone is surprised.

Colby: 'All Stars' isn't Lex's first rodeo...as they say in Texas. Wow. What a catch though.

Lex: He knows the women are happy that he can successfully fill Richard's role. If he is viewed as the provider than there is no reason for them to keep the other men around. That suits him fine.

Chapera Tribal Happenings

'The Robfather' and Am-bore approach Jenna and Rupert about forming an alliance. They play it off like they feel threatened. If Jenna and Rupert assist them, they will watch their backs too.

Rob: Doesn't really trust Rupert at all which is why he wants to partner up with him.

Rob talks about honouring their alliance at all costs. Everyone shakes on it.

Rob: He has made an alliance with everyone. It's my game, baby.

Mogo Mogo Tribal Happenings

Lex and Jerri retrieve the tree mail. Jerri has been dying to be alone with Lex. Not for those reasons, folks. Get your minds out of the gutter. Jerri to Lex: "You can trust me 150,000 per cent. I adore you." They hug.

Lex: Believes Jerri was being sincere. He will do whatever it takes to win though. He would even exploit a friendship.

Chapera Tribal Happenings

Upon receiving their tree mail, the tribe predicts the Reward Challenge will involve food. Susan still isn't hungry.

Rupert: Susan doesn't give a damn about the tribe. She is on her own path now.

Alicia: Susan's decision will put the tribe in a bad place but they still have to support her.

Reward Challenge

Chapera sees that Richard Hatch is history. Am-bore is happy about that. The whole confrontation between Probst and Susan happens.

After escourting Susan out of the game, Probst returns and makes an offer. The tribes can sit on the beach and share the food...or they can play out the Reward Challenge.

Jenna suggests they split the food and mend fences. Nobody else agrees. They want to compete for the bounty.

Reward

  • Sugar, pineapples, coffee, oranges, canned beef, barbecue utensils and some shish-ka-bobs.

    Result

  • The tribes have six food items each. They must shoot them into baskets located on pedestals. The trick is the baskets are located on very tall platforms and the tribes have to use a teeter-totter like apparatus to shoot the items in. Only one tribe member at a time. Nobody else can go until that tribe member has sunk their shot. Jenna puts her tribe behind as does Lex.

  • Winners: Mogo Mogo.

    Mogo Mogo Tribal Happenings

The tribe chows down. Ethan says the food is so good he would love to rub his face in it or sleep with it. Down boy! Down! Colby is sure Chapera is demoralized by losing the last Immunity Challenge, having Sue leave and now missing out on the Reward Challenge.

    Shii-Ann: Felt terrible for Susan.

Kathy: Makes her comment about being brought "that far" into Sue's "core of hatred".

    Chapera Tribal Happenings

At night, Rupert brings up what he thought was greedy behavior by Susan. She just gave Mojo Mojo a hell of a gift. Rob maintains that they are still six strong. Everyone agrees to stick together. They shake on it and chant "Chapera!".

Rupert: Thinks the discussion was a good show of faith on everyone's part.

In the morning, Chapera holds their insincere ceremony for Susan when they learn there will be no Immunity Challenge held.

Am-bore: It meant a lot to lose Susan but Chapera is the happy tribe and is always trying to remain upbeat.

Rob sings his song celebrating Susan's departure. Tom dances. Rupert even joins in with a comment or two. Alicia tears down Tom in her testimonial.

    Immunity Challenge

    Canceled.

    Tribal Council Happenings

  • Canceled.

    Parting Comments

Television: None are shown. We are treated to scenic shots as the credits roll.

    Internet: None are posted.

On the next 'Survivor': Television: Kathy to Shii-Ann about Jerri: "That woman is such a bitch." At Mogo Mogo, the claws come out. Jerri cooks with Shii-Ann. Jerri: "I don't care. I don't want it in the rice." Colby: "I say, put boxing gloves on." Shii-Ann rolls her eyes. Lex makes some bold plans for the future. Lex to Shii-Ann: "If we can pull this off, we are so in there." At the Reward Challenge, one more twist. Some of players look happy and others are stunned.

Internet: "One tribe is misled by Tree Mail, as all the tribes find themselves blindsided by another twist. One castaway's grating behavior drives a fellow tribe member crazy. Despite suffering the elements on the island, one tribe proves they know how to have a good time."

    Powell's Thoughts:

I gotta say that I agree with fans on the Net. This episode was worse than having to listen to Shii-Ann give an hour-long lecture on the mating habits of bumble bees. Cut out the drama with Susan, it was just plain boring. What a snorefest. What made it even harder to swallow were the reactions of some of the players to Susan's plight. Sure, she can be difficult at times. She admits as much. To jeer her though after everything that happened was totally callous. Kicking someone when they are down is awful. Should Susan have left the game? Whatever you think, one thing is certain, her heart really wasn't in it from the start. It may have been best for everyone that she took the course of action that she did. In watching this episode, my opinions of certain players has changed greatly. Rumour has it that when Susan was sent to the Loser Lodge, she asked to be transferred to another island and away from Richard. Though there was no final words from Susan, she will be on the official CBS site for a chat today.

Notice that once again Jenna Lewis was the one who suggested that everyone share in the reward. Whether she was just being kind or if she was playing the game, it was smart thinking. It is another indication that she goes far on 'All Stars'?

What could the big twist be? Well, next week is Episode Seven and that's when the tribes usually merge into one. Jerri is being set-up for the boot irregardless of what happens to the tribes. Lex's comment about sacrificing friendships could come into play.
