Episode10: Chad chucked
By JOHN POWELL -- JAM! Showbiz
Sometimes all the heart and soul in the world isn't enough to get the job done. That's life and it just ain't fair. Although amputee Chad Crittenden gave one of the gutsiest and most inspiring performances ever seen on 'Survivor', he couldn't overcome the odds. As he said it so many times before, 'Survivor' can evolve into a game of numbers and there just weren't enough on his side. Crittenden, whose unbelievable efforts during the challenges shamed many of his able-bodied competitors, joins fellow Lopevi Alliance member Lea "Sarge" Masters as the second member of the 'Survivor Vanuatu' jury. The Survivors at the start of the broadcast were: Alinta Tribe 1. Julie Berry: Youth mentor. 2. Chad Crittenden: Teacher. 3. Chris Daugherty: Highway construction. 4. Twila Tanner: Highway repair. 5. Ami Cusack: Coffee server, model. 6. Eliza Orlins: Pre-law student. 7. Leann Slaby: Research assistant. 8. Scout Cloud Lee: Rancher. Alinta Tribal Happenings (Night 24) Returning from Tribal Council, Chris decides to be frank with everyone. Tonight's vote was the worst for him thus far. Chris tells the others that ten minutes before they took the long walk to meet Probst, Sarge pulled him aside and told Chris to vote for him. "Just do it," is what Sarge said when he argued against the idea. Chris: "I voted for Sarge." Chris has a little secret to tell us. The conversation with Sarge never took place. He fibbed to the others. It was a purely selfish act. He cast his ballot for Sarge to get further ahead in the game. Alinta Tribal Happenings (Day 25) Scout wakes up before the other women. Ami sees Scout leaving the shelter. Scout reassures Ami she is ready to greet the day and offers Ami her pillow. Scout: Ami has changed the pecking order. Julie has taken her spot as the fifth place finisher. That just won't do. Scout heads over to the fire where Chris and Chad are sleeping. Scout warns them both to keep quiet but she has a way to keep them both in the game. Chris: "That's the best news I have heard." Scout is sure she can rally some of the women to take out Ami and Eliza. Chris: "It is a whole different game now." When Scout leaves, Chris and Chad talk. They are overjoyed about Scout's news. Chris to Chad: "It is Day 25 and we are still alive! That's all that matters". Reward Challenge The players haul Babe the Pig along with them to Challenge Beach. Probst provides them with a buff for it to wear. The players are divided into two teams. The first is Eliza, Chad, Chris and Ami. The second is Scout. Leann, Julie and Twila. Eliza and Julie are the "sacrificial lambs". As such, their hands are tied and they are shackled to a rope. Their team members must pull, yank and carry them through an obstacle course. Reward Result Probst sees Julie crying. He asks her if she is hurt. Nope. Julie is just frustrated that they lost after such an effort. Hmmm. Could the rumours be true about Probst and Julie? Hmmmm. Reward Happenings (Day 25) With Babe in tow, the winners fly to another island. Babe takes a leak and the smell nauseates everyone. Eliza: "What a wonderful flight." The Survivors head over to the native village where Chris presents Babe to the chief as a token of appreciation. The problem is, Chris is given a pig back in return. Doh! The players allow the pig to run free as they sit and watch the villagers dance and sing. They hope Babe 2 wanders off. The Survivors are invited to join in the celebration and do. At the conclusion, they are asked to drink a large cup of Kava. Kava is apparently some kind of alcoholic drink. Chad is blitzed. He admits he can't stand properly. He is taken to a hut to lay down. The players aren't pleased about the dinner either. There is a cow's head surrounded by loads of fatty meat. In a touching moment, the tribe's children join the players and sing a song they learned just for them. Ami is touched by the gesture. She loves kids. Alinta Tribal Happenings (Night 25) The heavens have opened up and Alinta gets drenched. Scout, Leann, Julie and Twila try to keep the fire going as best they can. Scout: "This is the worst situation I have been in here." Speaking to one of the cameramen, Leann says she doesn't care if they are not supposed to swear or not. This storm sucks. Alinta Tribal Happenings (Day 26) The women spend the morning drying and wringing out everything. Their blanket and clothes are just soaked. Scout says that maybe it isn't a bad idea to keep the guys. At least they know how to keep the fire alive. Eliza is useless. They should team with the men and vote her out. Leann's jaw hits the floor. Twila about kicking Twila: "Good riddance." Twila wonders if they should tell Ami about their decision. Julie believes she will go along with them. Chad, Chris, Ami and Eliza return to camp. The others don't greet them with warm hugs. A bitter Leann asks if they got rained upon too. Chris replies they stayed in a hut. Ami says the food and sleeping arrangements sucked. Ami relates her experience with the children to Scout. Scout just nods. Eliza: They couldn't be any less excited to see us. Ami: There was no big welcome. She has a sense that something went on while she was gone. Julie won't look her in the eye and that upsets her. Scout, Chad and Chris meet. Scout reinforces the fact that they need to concentrate their efforts on turfing Eliza. She compares her to a rattlesnake. Scout: "After that, we need to get rid of Ami immediately." Scout expressed her fondness for the men. She thinks it will be a lot more enjoyable to play the game with them rather than some of the women. Chris is as pleased as punch. He can tell the Yasur Alliance isn't tight. They have been too cocky and confident. Ami always presents herself in a cocky way. Chris delivers some words of wisdom. If you question any a woman's ability she will snap your neck. If you speak from the heart and show vulnerability, they will think with their hearts and that's exactly what he hopes happens. Immunity Challenge It's the hold-onto-a-pole-as-long-as-you-can challenge. The players shimmy up a wooden pole and hold on for dear life. The last one still hanging on wins. Reward Result Alinta Tribal Happenings (Day 23) Back at camp, the women chat about booting Eliza. Ami and Scout bicker on strategy. Ami is against the move. The men are still a threat to win Immunity. Scout says that Ami and the other women have nothing to fear. They are fierce competitors too. Ami, Julie and Leann discuss voting off Chad. Ami doesn't think it is time to vote Eliza off yet. Chad meets with Scout. Scout isn't sure which way the vote is going. Chad is worried. He must do something to shore up things with his supposed alliance. He discusses the situation with Twila. She gives him the same answer. She has no idea what is happening. Twila corners Ami. She wants the low-down on the vote. Twila: "Should we tell Chad he is going?". Ami: "I am not the person to ask." Twila: "Then, who is?". Ami says Twila should speak to Scout. Leann, Julie, Twila and Ami joke about Eliza. Twila calls Eliza a "bitch". Ami describes today's happenings as one big soap opera. Twila chats with Scout. Scout hasn't a clue how Tribal Council will turn out. Twila says that Ami believes voting out Eliza is stupid right now. She agrees with her. Twila informs Scout that Ami, Julie and Leann aren't casting their votes against Eliza. Scout reminds Twila that they have the votes on their side. They will win it four to three. Twila feels like she is in the middle of things and being pulled in two directions...again. Alinta Tribal Council Happenings Leann confesses. She can't stand the rain. It is driving her crazy. Chris is sure the rain raised the stock of the men. Chad tells Probst the men are still fighting. They have come up with 25 or 30 plans to save themselves. Scout admits she has spoken to the men and considered their schemes. The men have talked to everyone. Some of the women disagree. This is the first they are hearing of proposals by the men. Eliza is nervous about what went down at camp while she was away. Twila: You can't trust anyone in this game. Ami snaps back that what Twila is saying is bulls**t. She knows there are people she can trust in the game. There is no doubt about that. Ami votes Chad. She is sorry but she has to keep her word to the alliance. Chad picks Eliza. He is following the will of his alliance. Chris votes Eliza too. His alliance told him to vote that way. Scout seems upset when Chad walks. Probst points out that as the lone man, Chris might be very valuable. Final Voting 1. Julie Berry: Chad. 2. Chad Crittenden: Eliza. 3. Chris Daugherty: Eliza. 4. Twila Tanner: Chad. 5. Ami Cusack: Chad. 6. Eliza Orlins: Chad. 7. Leann Slaby: Chad. 8. Scout Cloud Lee: Chad. Tribal Council Victim: Chad Crittenden. Parting Comments On the next 'Survivor': Television. Chris tells Eliza (and some others) of Twila and Scout's actions. Chris: "Scout and Twila came to me and Chad to form an alliance with us. Swear to God on my family." Chris to us: "I narked out Scout and Twila." The girls confront Scout. Scout, Ami and Leann chat on the beach. Scout: "It is not Scout's idea. That is what I am trying to tell you." Scout to us: "My hackles came up." On the next 'Survivor': Internet. "One Survivor tries to solidify a Final Four position, but is crushed to learn that things aren't always what they seem. The Survivors are surprised by an emotional reunion with their loved ones. But only one castaway gets quality time with their loved one. At the Immunity Challenge, castaways are surprised to get special help for the competition. One Survivor approaches a tribemate with a plan for the upcoming Tribal Council vote. Caught off-guard, the tribemate tries to deflect the vote. How will the voting go down?" Powell's Thoughts: Can the women hold it together? Nope. The Yasur apocalypse has begun. The evidence isn't in yet but Chris may be the greatest 'Survivor' mastermind since Richard Hatch and that 'Fairplay' guy...well almost. If the rumours are true and a woman hits the road next week that can only mean one of two things. 1. Chris wins Immunity. 2. The Yasur Alliance officially fractures and Ami might win Immunity and can't be targeted. Chris seems to understand how to play on the women's doubts and fears. If he does manage to secure himself a final four position, it will be a true blue 'Survivor' coup. I don't know about you but the one quote that still sticks in my mind is Chris saying at the beginning of the series that he started playing the game as soon as he stepped on the beach. The producers and the editors love foreshadowing like that. It could be that Scout, Twila and either Julie or Eliza against Ami, Leann and either Eliza or Julie. How does Eliza do it? Everyone treats her like the Ebola virus and yet she is still on the island? My guess some are thinking "final two" and others have bigger fish to fry. Scout has definitely gone off the deep end with Eliza. Scout needs to regroup and realize the biggest threat is Ami. It would be smart for Scout to set her personal feelings aside. Making strategic choices based on personal like and dislikes has been the downfall of many a reality show contestant. What in the world is Ami's strategy? She has to know she is a huge target. That's why she directed Twila to speak with Scout on whom to vote out. If she is truly aware of her status in the game then why did she display the arrogant attitude at Tribal Council? You would assume the best approach would be to fade into the woodwork for awhile so the other players direct their attention elsewhere. Ami's comments at Tribal Council could come back to haunt her in a major way. Special help for the Immunity Challenge? The loved ones probably get to participate. |
