Believe it or not, Survivor's torch is still burning bright.

CBS announced today that the popular reality show series has been given the greenlight to seasons 11 and 12. Both editions will be broadcast in the 2005-2006 television season.

Though 'Survivor Vanuatu' did well in the overall Nielsen ratings, Sunday's finale was beaten by ABC's 'Desperate Housewives'. Only approximately 19.7 million people tuned into see 33-year-old highway construction worker, Chris Daugherty, become the 'Ultimate Survivor' while 'Housewives' brought in about 21.6 million. As far as overall 'Survivor' finale ratings go, 'Vanuatu' was the least-watched of all time. 'Vanuatu' took over that distinction from the 'Survivor Thailand' edition which brought in 22.3 million viewers.

On the finale, it was revealed that the 10th edition of 'Survivor' will take place in the Palau Islands. Producer/host Jeff Probst hinted at a possible war theme. The series will also feature 20 players, the largest number of competitors to ever vie for the million-dollar prize. 'Survivor Palau' has or will conclude filming this month and is rumoured to debut in March.
