'Vampire' bites into fourth season
By Bill Harris, QMI Agency

The Vampire Diaries

The Witch Diaries returns for its fourth season Thursday, Oct. 11 on CW and CTV Two.

Did I say The Witch Diaries? I meant The Vampire Diaries.

Last season especially, it seemed whenever any main member of the cast -- Nina Dobrev as Elena, Paul Wesley as Stefan and Ian Somerhalder as Damon -- got into trouble, suddenly there was some secret spell to bail them out. Those spells usually came courtesy of Bonnie, played by Kat Graham.

But as the fourth season begins, an entire team of witches may be required (SPOILER ALERT, up-to-date plot points ahead). As you'll recall, Elena is on the verge of becoming a vampire.

I'm still a fan of The Vampire Diaries, but witchcraft shouldn't be overused. It's like science fiction, when you spend an entire episode thinking the crew is in peril, only to have the nerdiest crew member say, "If we applied gobbledeegook physics, it just might work." Voila, problem solved.

Either way, after all that has happened to Elena, it'll be fascinating to see if she gets to bite back.
