TV Show: Voice, The

Competition heats up on 'The Voice'

The competition between the judges on The Voice is getting cutthroat on night five as they scramble to fill their teams. If they don’t get 16 singers by the end of the blind auditions, that’s it—they’ll have to work with what they’ve got. Last night, the show promised even more talent than the last four nights.

First up is Trevanne Howell, a 33-year-old single mom. She says she wants to show her two kids that if you want something, you can go and get it. Singing I Have Nothing, it sounds like she’s hitting all of the notes and it sounds good, but the judges don’t seem to be convinced. A sad ending for someone so committed to singing. Worse singers have made it through.

Choosing to drop out of NYU to sing, Collin McLoughlin moved back home to pursue his dream, despite disappointing his parents. He came on the show to prove to his parent that dropping out was the right choice. With his guitar in hand and singing Wild World, CeeLo and Blake instantly know they want him. Adam also can’t resist hitting his button, but Chrisitna chooses to stay out. In the end, Collin chooses to go with Adam.

After being prescribed music to heal a health condition, 17-year-old Joselyn Rivera grew up with karaoke. Singing Kelly Clarkson’s Stronger, her confidence shines through but her voice isn’t quite hitting it. Christina contemplates pressing her button and finally does near the end along with Blake at the very last second. Joselyn hesitates before choosing Christina, but it seems like the perfect fit for her. Xtina can definitely turn little Joselyn into a little diva.

Christina celebrates by doing a diva dance in front of Blake. Props to her for rubbing it in.

Benji, whose first love is racecar driving, says The Voice piqued his interest. Unlike others, he just wants to give this a try but his life doesn’t depend on it with the usual sob story. Singing Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door, he has a voice that doesn’t match his look but, it’s not too shabby. Adam turns around first, and CeeLo follows shortly after. With a screaming note at the end, Christina looks intrigued but passes. He chooses Adam, who “believed” in him first.

In things we didn’t see: Todd Kessler, Den Taub, and Emily Earl get scooped up by CeeLo.

52-year-old, Lorraine Ferro, the happiest woman in the world (who looks way younger than her age) is ready to surprise the judges. Singing Skyscraper, she sounds a bit like a Disney movie character, but she sounds good. The song control is a bit all over the place, and no judges turn around. Makes sense.

Mycale Waastman singing Let’s Stay Together, instantly wins over Adam and CeeLo. His smooth voice also captures Blakes. I’m not a huge fan, his style could use some work and his singing seems pretty run of the mill. Blake says he’s the best vocalist they’ve heard all day. Mycale ends up choosing CeeLo.

In another uneventful night, at least CeeLo is managing to beef up his team.

Team count at the end of night five:

CeeLo now has 11 singers.

Adam’s team totals 11 as well.

Christina now has 10.

Blake ended up with no new singers, totaling seven.
